Rumor: Justice Ginsburg to Retire

That’s the buzz among Senate staffers:

The plan reportedly is this: If Elena Kagan’s nomination to the court can be confirmed early this summer, Ginsburg would then announce her retirement, so that confirmation for Ginsburg’s replacement could be finished before the end of the year.
Those who believe the rumor see the Ginsburg retirement scenario as a signal that the Obama administration fears Democrats may lose enough Senate seats in the mid-term election to make it more difficult to confirm a liberal appointee after the next Congress convenes in January 2011. . . .

Read the rest at The American Spectator. Note that this is merely a rumor. No word yet on whether Will Folks has claimed to have had “inappropriate” contact with Justice Ginsburg.

    That is actually a no brainer for Obama. Even if things go well for the Dems, he is going to lose bargaining power after January. If the economy keeps going in the toilet he loses even more power.

    I am still not sure a filibuster against Kagan makes sense (without something more), but making sure she is on the record regarding her true positions does.

    Let us all be thankful that Sandra Day O’Connor left when she did.

    But three nominees, at least? This hurts, a lot. Those people are going to be on there for a long, long time.

    I can only hope that the remaining six stay healthy until 2013. Crikey.

    Joe: I also hope that Breyer stays on until the end of the Obama administration, just so that we don’t have to deal with a young liberal who will be on the Court until 2040. Sigh.

    Conservative females are the most under-represented group in the legal profession. It’s time for the ultimate affirmative action: promoting me to SCOTUS.

    Downside: no experience.

    Upside: conservative opinions until about 2065; there’s some solid longevity in my family.

    By the way, I was trying to be somewhat ladylike; I’ve been told, by multiple people, that I have some of the more creative cusswords out there.
