Headin’ to South Cackalacky!

Posted on | March 27, 2013 | 32 Comments

There’s a debate tomorrow night in Charleston, Ed Morrissey interviewed Curtis Bostic this morning, and Ann Coulter says:

There’s no “win” for the GOP with Sanford, except that Mark Sanford is bored and no one will hire him.  So the country has to take one for the team — Team Sanford!
The country is important, but Mark Sanford thinks his redemption is more important. . . .
Meanwhile, Sanford’s runoff opponent, Curtis Bostic, is a grassroots, fiscal conservative, former marine and practicing lawyer, who would be a dream candidate for the GOP in any congressional district. He, too, has found his soulmate. In fact, he’s married to her. When Curtis Bostic tells his staff he’s hiking the Appalachian Trail, he’s hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Any idiot who votes for Sanford in the runoff is working for the Obama administration.
Vote for Curtis Bostic in the GOP runoff election on April 2.
Your friend, Ann Coulter

No time to say more. Gotta hit the road.

Ali Akbar’s past is truly worriesome. Questions need to be asked, answers need to be given.

    “Just askin’ questions,” eh?
Give me a break: This is standard-issue attack stuff from the Sanford campaign, aided and abetted by assholes with personal vedettas.

HaHa! I love that last line at the link:

    “This story’s getting bigger”

No, “this story” has just been buried under the tsunami of web commentary over Coulter’s endorsement. Just go in any room and ask how many people even know who Ali is. If you find one who isn’t a regular reader here, you’ve caught lightning in a bottle.

Unless you have proof of wrongdoing, you are simply dredging up old news.

Helpful clue: “wrongdoing” is a present tense formation.

We’ve been here before with Ackbar. The questions are still outstanding and need to be answered. Not “just sayin'” or anything else. This is something that *will* one day blow up in someone’s face. Ackbar may not be widely recognized, so the question of ‘how many even know who he is?” really is relevant because that can be changed in a heartbeat.
The mere fact he is a convicted felon can be poisonous regardless of how you feel about Ackbar’s involvement. I have no presonal agenda here, but I am concerned about anything on teh conservative side that Ackbar gets involved in.
If, OTOH, all this has been investiogated, howze about pointing people to where it has been so the issue can be dealt with. Otherwise things pointed out by the lawless opposition that pays attnetion to the law only when convenient will make hay of it, and turn our people into mere fodder.
I want to see Bostic win, but Ackbar’s involvement, even on the edges bothers me a lot, and for very good reason. And, he will burn you too if you aren’t very cautious.

I’m all for Bostic. However, and I know he is your friend, did Ali let them know about this before they hired him?
If he didn’t, he is going to hurt the campaign. I know i’m sounding like a concern troll, but we are held to a higher standard, like it or not.

I have to agree with K-bob here. While the Sanford team (and perhaps Colbert in an attempt to face the weaker foe) will push this. Both Rick Santorum & Coulter will have much more play with GOP primary voters

And if there is one thing the Sanford people can’t really play is a “character card” because his entire campaign is based on people ignoring his own flaws.

It’s not unfair to point out it might be a problem later in a general election or with candidates in a different situation but while others might disagree I can’t see this as a factor in the primary race.

In terms of political reality, it doesn’t matter if these are “questions that need to be answered” or “100% recycled BS”

The reality is it’s an avenue of attack that is going to be used.

While I’ve already argued that for the Sanford people such an attack will be ineffective (and likely backfire). In the general election I would be shocked if the MSM & Comedy Central didn’t try to amplify it. The Bostic campaign should have or develop a plan in place to counter/answer when it comes.

Politics ain’t beanbag it’s about winning and the spoils that come from it. Anyone who plans for Marquess of Queensberry instead of a street fight is in for a nasty surprise.

What Peter’s saying here is important. But I differ on the likelihood of the attack being effective. I spoke to some South Carolinian activists who are standing with Bostic (last night and this morning). They need reassurance.

Having ignored this since it first erupted here, I wasted too much time digging into this supposed “controversy” last night. All I can see is that some people don’t like Ali, (based on arguments they have with him) so they just keep referring to him as a Convicted Felon over and over. And of course, “just asking questions.”

Not one person seems to have bothered to make a case as to exactly how “criminal” he must be. Certainly not any more than Ali himself has posted openly. It’s all vitriolic, and extremely thin (AKA embarrassingly thin) on facts.

That bothers me. The reason I caucus with conservatives is because, usually, they traffic in facts and reason, not accusation and innuendo.

I don’t know the guy, nor have I ever met him, but I do know that a case has to be based on something a little thicker than bad attitudes, sneaking suspicion, and snap judgements on either side.

Now if this was some situation where current wrongdoing was discovered, then it would be contemptible for the people who know about it to stay silent. In the same vein, being vocal about a situation where no wrongdoing is going on is also contemptible.

And if it turns out the Mr. Akbar has done nothing wrong, a massively significant “own goal” by our “side” will have been for nothing.

    Again.

I’m sick of these stupid “own goals”.
People need to put up, or shut up. (And “just asking questions” is not “putting up.”)

As a side note: This business of worrying about what the opposition is going to use against us is also contemptible. It’s exactly how you lose. You don’t win by removing all weakness, you win by exploiting the opponent’s weaknesses and overpowering their strengths.

The general is where I have problems with this. I think you are right about this on the primary level, however.
