Gov. Gary Johnson and Other Popular Super-Cool Guys at SRLC

Posted on | April 9, 2010 | 28 Comments

NEW ORLEANS –It’s pretty neat to get to spend time with a cool guy like the governor of New Mexico, who reminds us that Republicans need to focus on fiscal discipline:

The governor’s also promoting the Our America Initiative, and you should check that out. People ask me, what’s the secret to getting to hang out at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference with cool people like Gary Johnson? Step One: Get to know Ali Akbar . . .

Tabitha Hale of FreedomWorks and New Media activist Lyndsey Fifield at the Blogger Bash that Ali put together through his consulting firm Republic Modern. And a few minutes later . . .

Dr. Melissa Clouthier and Rep. Joseph Cao (R-La.) with Ali — a completely random meeting in the hallway of the Hilton.

A slightly less random meeting in Hilton hallway, as Newt Gingrich is introduced to Carl Cameron’s producer. Also not completely random . . .

Johnson is not the guv and hasn’t been since 2003. Although, if he were to run again he’d probably win.

“reminds us that Republicans need to focus on fiscal discipline”

True though Bart Stupak may have changed the game silghtly.

Could be a majority of ‘politicians like Bart Stupak’ pro-life Democrat Party voters will be focusing on abortion as it pertains to the health care bill.

Is this the dude who was advocating to legalize pot in a speech today? I was just listening…not watching that one.
I do not advocate legalization of marijuana.

Gary Johnson is one of the best advocates of fiscal responsibility and freedom. Unfortunately you’ll never win over the authoritarian wing of the party who need to regulate you like the social-cons.

C’est la vie. At least he’ll reach a few people.

Strange; Libertarian politician Gary Johnson’s primary reason for legalizing pot is that it is a great way to TAX AND REGULATE?

I often debate this topic with a pot-smoking anesthesiologist friend (think about this when you need surgery) that his Libertarian view that ‘legalizing’ equates with ‘freedom’ is short-sighted when government power has expanded beyond its own legality.

OR rather; Libertarians, if you want to be able to freely smoke pot then you are better off leaving it illegal.

If you legalize pot you are giving big bureaucratic government more AUTHORITARIAN control to TAX, REGULATE, DICTATE AND INVADE your private life.

I would argue that Libertarian policy often negates fiscal responsibility and freedom.

I’ll add; Libertarians might wish to analyze the difference between ‘rigged markets’ (Statist dictatorships) and ‘free markets’ (Capitalistic Democracy) to understand why dirty-dealing big profits gained on the front end up paid in the price of Americans blood at the back end.

Enriching dictators for your dirty ‘rigged-market’ personal profit ends up costing other Americans their lives and blood.

Nice interview. Gov Johnson is the best choice we have in 2012 to get this country back on track.

I’ve posted your interview along with a few others from SRLC at http://my-thoughts-on-freedom.blogspot.com/2010/04/video-gary-johnson-at-srlc.html
