Bill Maher: How Do You Speak Around That Foot?

Via NewsBusters:

“Okay, so I mentioned in the monologue I’m a little mad this week,” the “Real Time” host began after introducing his guests.

“I’m mad at the oil company who didn’t obviously build their rig well enough,” he continued. “I’m mad at America in general because we should have gotten off the oil tit starting in the ’70s.”

Three points:

  • What does ‘this week’ mean in this context? Are you especially upset, because you’ve been off your rocker since the mouth opened to accept the foot.
  • ‘didn’t obviously build their rig well enough’? Have you completed the investigation? There are any number of reasons that an explosion could have caused the apparent demise of 11 people out there, from corporate negligence, to suicide, to terrorism, to an act of war from those punks in Bulungi. Adults wait for the investigation.
  • ‘should have gotten off the oil tit’? If we could find a way to convert serial buffoonery into power, Bill, your material would finally be worth something. Would that you could be placed in a position where you’re responsible for producing energy itself or policy concerning it. Your meltdown would make the schadenfreude reality show for the ages.

    Adults wait for the investigation.

    Please, tell that to Rush Limbaugh.

    Thank you.

    Patrick, that’s a fairly ambiguous comment there, my friend. Care to enlighten us as to just exactly what you’re trying to say? Or was that just another cheap shot at RL?

    Thank YOU.

    I came to the conclusion long ago that it didn’t pay to even bother reading or (God forbid) actually watching anything that nitwit had to say. Just looking at that smug puss of his is enough to elevate my blood pressure.

    I wouldn’t pi** on Maher if he was on fire.

    America will “get off the oil tit” about as soon as Maher weans himself off sniffing lines off the asses of hookers…or so I’ve heard.

    Dell, Rush speculated several days ago that the Obama Administration was somehow involved with the oil spill so as to preemptively justify the recantation of his announcement regarding offshore drilling. Now, Rush won’t admit this, because his modus operandi lies in ambiguously dabbling in stupid (and often racist) innuendo, then tracking back and basking in the media spotlight that inevitably accrues to him as all people of good moral sense react in horror to his statements. This is because he is a charlatan who does not believe what he says. But anyone with even mild cognitive abilities can attest to that.

    @Alex,
    I, for one, wish that my confidence in the integrity of the POTUS in this instance matched that of other occupants of the office.
    The idea that the Administration would deliberately cause/worsen this seems as far-fetched as 9/11 Trutherism.
    And the integrity on display by the Administration should enhance that sentiment.
    Except that what’s on display does the opposite.

    Are you seriously contending that the only alternative intellectual position to believing that the President caused the oil rig to explode/let it worsen is that the former President caused the 9/11 attacks to occur or let them occur for his own political benefit? Whatever reason Mr. McCain hired you for this blog, it certainly wasn’t for your powers of formal logic.

    @Alex,
    If you seriously seek to mis-represent my statement that way, then there is precious little I can do to stop you.
    My point, to re-iterate, is that the idea that the current Administration would cause/worsen an ecological disaster is as abhorrent as claiming 9/11 was an inside job.
    Regrettably, the current Administration, through domestic and foreign policy actions as strange as your twisting of my statement, makes the concept relatively less abhorrent than it should be.
    I really want to have total confidence in Administration, and I hope for a course alteration and improvement in my confidence level.
    We’ll see what November brings.

    During the 2008 election cycle, BP-linked donors gave $71,051 to Barack Obama’s senate campaign, more than they gave to any other senator that cycle.

    BO+BP=Destruction of our environment!

    Far be it for me to attribute to malice that can be explained by simple incompetence, but it does seem that the Obama team looks at EVERY problem through the lens of political advantage. When the platform blew up and sank, most likely their first response was “Great! We can use this to stick it to the oil companies!” It was only afterword, when the scope of the disaster became apparent that it dawned on them that genuine leadership was called for here. So what did Obama do? He ordered in SWAT teams and lawyers. SWAT teams? Does he even know what a SWAT team is? Play time is over. The time has come for the administration to grow up and provide leadership. And so far they have completely failed at their responsibility. But they do have a brand shiny new stick to hit at the oil industry.

    As for “Getting off of the oil tit,” Mr. Maher, since you so often brag about the greatness of your own intellect, please enlighten the rest of us proles about viable alternatives to the “oil tit.” It’s one thing to stand on the sidelines and submit sarcastic remarks, and quite another to come up with new ideas. But if you could do that then you would become a potential multi-billionaire in the energy industry and not a pissant comedian on a network that nobody watches.

    Don’t think you were entirely paying attention to Rush’s program during the swat team tweak. Wise up.
