Downsizing The Federal Government

DTFG is a great new Cato site.
The country’s problems boil down to the Federal government undertaking non-Federal tasks.
Disabusing Congress that it should have any interactions with private citizens concerning housing, education, health care and retirement is key to preserving the country.

The dirty work of cleaning up the century-old political disaster of Progressivism will suck, but there does not appear to be a valid alternative.

Plenty of twerps squeaking out lines like “Yes we are the hope that we changed for” are available, but you can’t afford them. Sorry.

Unfortunately, given how entrenched people are in wanting those entitlements and pork that they have, and politicians are rewarded for catering to those desires, I suspect it will take a true fiscal crisis for what you are speaking of to happen. And saddly, that fiscal meltdown is coming.

Revert the budget back in time to, say 1960. (Pick any year prior to 1980)

There’s your budget. There’s your (new) list of programs the government handles.

Be nice to do the same with laws and regulations.

Then you can start figuring out what that has happened since then is really needed, and what has happened since then that has killed our economy.

Rose that is at least a good start as long as the Dept. of Ed.’s creation date or earlier is the starting point. However not as spiritually fulfilling as decimation.
