A Relevant Parable
Posted on | July 14, 2010 | 29 Comments
Once on a snowy evening, a woman went for a walk and happened upon a snake. The snake had strayed from his nest before the winter storm hit and, unable to make it back underground in time, was now nearly frozen to death. Seeing its beautiful colors and having pity, the woman decided to rescue the snake. So she took it home and nursed it back to health, thinking to keep it as a pet.
And then one day, the snake bit her. As the fatal poison took hold, the woman cried out, “How could you do this, after I saved your life?”
To which the snake replied: “Lady, you knew I was a snake when you found me.”
Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are engaged again.

Redemption is fine. Just don’t mess with someone’s family. Strange things can happen if you forget that.

As a rule a child is better off with two parents together but I can’t help but think of the £50 from the movie The Devil’s Disciple.
I couldn’t believe Morning Joe didn’t touch this today.

Here’s a sentence from the Sarah and Todd’s response:
“Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.”
I find this to be an extremely gracious statement on their part. There’s hope and no small measure of trust, leavened with a bit of warranted skepticism. They’re willing to forgive and trust when there is no good reason to do so.

My assistant Chris Bodenner summed it up well with: “The announcement was clearly meant to ruin Andrew’s vacation.”
I will get tanned, rested, and ready to uncover all the lies and untruths about Trig and Sarah. You have not seen anything yet. In the words of that war criminal Rumsfeld: “The gloves come off.”

What are the Palins supposed to say? We raised a girl to have a poor taste in men and have an exhibitionist need to to do interviews and act on crappy ABC “family” channel shows. There is something really wrong with a family channel show has the “viewer discretion advised” warning, which Secret Life does have.
I’ve been in a similar position as Bristol, and would never have dreamed of exposing myself to the media – I would have been like Garbo and only have media contact after I had achieved a stable life worth imitating. But that’s just me.

And Levi, you gave up a potential life of holistic power lifting, amyl nitrite, and fabulous beach seasons to be with some breeder girl in Alaska? I guess I misjudged you.
You will regret this.

Young women make dumb decisions. It would seem Levi came crawling back when his fifteen minutes ran up along with any income. Bristol is acting foolishly and no one else can convince her of it.

God gives parents children like Bristol so that
they/we will understand the bible verses, ‘Pray without ceasing.’, and, ‘Praying always, with all prayer and supplication, in the spirit…’ I certainly have found that to be true.
Sometimes, despite our best efforts, our children make poor judgements/choices. This could be one of those ‘Let go and let God’ situations for the Palins.

Smart idea on Levi’s part; dumb idea on Bristol’s part. The Palin family could be the best thing to happen to him, not because he would have access to a lifestyle that he otherwise wouldn’t, but because they would protect and embrace (but not always trust and love) their son-in-law.
A lot of men grow up fast when they have to be the head of a family. They also learn, quickly, to appreciate things that they otherwise would not. Perhaps Levi Johnson will grow from this.
On behalf of once-overly-forgiving 19-year-olds, I’m begging y’all to go easy on Bristol.

For a couple of kids, these two have been subjected to media scrutiny at a very difficult time in their lives, and the results were not pretty to see. How many adult relationships under stress would survive the intense spotlight focused on them?
Give them a chance. People have done a lot worse things as young idiots, and yet redeemed themselves.
For their sake and the sake of their child, pray for them.
