CPAC Update: Rep. Allen West Will Buy Me Beers and Also Give Keynote Speech

Posted on | February 9, 2011 | 34 Comments

One of these things is very important news:

Freshman Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) will be the closing keynote speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference this year, he said in a Wednesday morning tweet.

Will update with further news of who’s buying me beers at CPAC. Other than “everybody,” of course.

UPDATE: It can be neither confirmed nor denied that Matt Lewis is buying me beers.

UPDATE II: Here is the Tweet by which Congressman West made his big announcement:

Some of you may notice that he didn’t say anything about buying me beers. Well, (a) he only had 140 characters to work with, and (b) some things are too important for a mere Twitter announcement. We expect a press release momentarily. Meanwhile, The Hill reports:

By choosing West, CPAC sends an interesting message. The Florida freshman hasn’t been afraid to clash with the GOP leadership in the House, and he enjoys a unique status as just one of two black Republicans elected in the House.

Uh, that word “unique” has an actual definition. If there are two of something, it’s not “unique.”

UPDATE III: Jerry Wilson is not in the CPAC holiday spirit:

The clubby chummy high school-ish clique vibe is pathetic. . . .
I have yet another doctor’s appointment this morning to see if the staph infection in my sinuses, which has plagued me for several months, is any better. Also, all appearances indicate I have some kind of infection, possibly staph as well, in my lungs or close vicinity thereof. I’ve undergone four rounds of antibiotics in the past five or six months, and in the case of the first three treatments (I finished the most recent one yesterday) all the symptoms came back at full strength within a matter of days.
I’m tired of being sick, and I’m scared about why this isn’t going away.

Persistent illness is indeed cause for concern, and I certainly hope Jerry gets well soon. My own health has been less than optimal the past few days, but remain resolutely determined to ignore any source of woe during “Mardi Gras for the Right.”

If I keel over dead before it’s done, I can only hope that I have done my share by then to put the “party” back in the Republican Party. Until they plow me under, however, Laissez les bons temps rouler!

UPDATE IV: Now a Memeorandum thread. The choice of West is commended as “brilliant” by Cubachi.

You may wonder, “Why is Stacy so certain that Allen West is going to buy him beers?” Let me remind you that I spent Election Night at West’s victory party in Boca Raton.

There was a cash bar at the party and, although I was fortunately able to impose on some of my friends to purchase the necessary refreshments, the very thought a Republican congressional campaign would expect me to buy my own beer . . .

Well, it offended my sense gonzo ethics. If a professional journalist doesn’t even get free beer, what’s the point in becoming a professional journalist?

Might as well go to law school or something.

Will he also feed you popcorn?

You may have a lot to talk about.

The U.S. Navy does not park warships in the Canal without coordination with the Egyptian Military (the area they are talking about is a lake connected to the Canal just south of Ismailia). Something is up with this.

You are a pesky little troll gg.

    Troll? What troll?

You mean, Alan West, the same guy who in the last election lied–telling the people that he had a higher security clearance than the President–that Alan West. I guess people on the right will believe anything.

  • Joe

No tadef, we are talking about the same Alan West who is a patriot, warrior, and is now a representative for the good people of Florida. That Alan West.

Nice article, thanks for the information.

Having been through one, there is no way Barack Obama could have gotten any sort of security clearance with all the information and records he has withheld. The fact that he was forced to be given one by the requirements of his office and the way he betrayed that clearance by agreeing to pass on British defense data to the Russians shows a major hole in how we vet for public office in this country.

We’re actually talking about ALLEN WEST, the rest of what Joe said applies.

I hope you have a great time, I shared this post at that page I run at facebook, which goes to my Twitter, and also included a request that people by you some beers.
I look forward to the day when I can vote for Allen West for the office of POTUS, may that day arrive in November of 2012.

Off topic but it will play well with your upcoming beer summitt with Congressman West. Limbaugh today has a great montage of all the conflicting statements fromt the “Regime”. The Obama Regime. The best is Obama sending a retired State Department guy to Egypt to encourage Mubarak to leave, only to have the guy come back and tell Obama that Mubarak needs to stay in place for the time being.

Let’s just say Rush is on a roll today.

Gone or the good ol’ days when a journalist, on the record, can meet up with southern racists over a beer as part of his/her job….

I have a great video of Col. West posted here: http://therionorteline.com/2011/02/04/a-vet-who-understands-the-enemy-we-face/

It is from last year but is worth a look.

I think the Good Colonel is too much a gentleman to contribute to your delinquency, Mr. McCain. You are much too young to be drinking.l

I’m trying to figure out how this jackwagon came to the conclusion that Allen West is a southern racist before I nuke his account. Simple stupidity, or clumsier-than-usual trolling?

When given a choice between two negatives applying to a Manic Progressive (I know that makes three) remember as you peruse the menu listing the two or one hundred negatives the correct response is usually I agree.
