Team Newt Implodes: Top Aides Quit Gingrich 2012 Presidential Campaign

Posted on | June 9, 2011 | 27 Comments

This news just broke in the past hour:

Republican Newt Gingrich’s senior aides on his presidential campaign have resigned, according to the Associated Press.
Press secretary Rick Tyler told the AP that he, campaign manager Rob Johnson said other strategists and aides in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina stepped down.

UPDATE: Politico points to an obvious factor:

One official said the last straw came when Gingrich went forward with taking a long-planned cruise with his wife last week in the Greek isles. . . .
[After the campaign's botched rollout last month] Gingrich then virtually vanished from the campaign trail, taking more than a week off the campaign trail. His whereabouts were unknown until this week, when POLITICO revealed that he and his wife, Callista, were on a cruise in the Mediterranean.

You’re making phone calls to volunteers in Iowa while your candidate is cruising the Aegean Sea — not exactly a moral booster for the campaign team.

UPDATE II: Allahpundit suggests that key members of Team Newt might be about to climb aboard the Rick Perry bandwagon.

UPDATE III: From the Washington Post:

Among the issues, according to knowledgeable sources, was the two-week vacation that Gingrich and his wife, Callista, insisted upon taking against the advice of his top political staff. Coming as it did after one of the most diastrous campaign launches in recent memory, it raised questions as to whether Gingrich would be willing to “commit time to the grassroots,” said Tyler.

Newt is almost as pathetic as Anthony Weiner.

I’m pretty certain all these retread candidates just see this as a way of raising their Hannity value. And I think there is some way to keep the money they raise, too. Isn’t the Delaware Witch living on the proceeds of her senate campaign for the past eight years?

    Epic delusions of June 2011

Wiener: ”I’m not resigning” (June 7)

Gingrich: ”I’m still in the race” (June 9)

Me: ” I won’t come in your mouth” (last night)

If Hannity keeps bringing Newton on, his stock will fall as well.  This was a pretty transparent effort to try to boost Gingrich’ relevance.  Hannity needs to either book more and different people, or cut his airtime.

You have heard it from me before, your resident lurking Texas Aggie, pleasepleaseplease not Rick  “The Hairdo” Perry.

A true, convicted conservative he is not. And, no, the success of Texas is not his doing. It is the common sense standard of Texans themselves that make this state what it is.

I do not watch Hannity, but does he really have Newt on all the time?   Hannity has a ratings base doesn’t he that should attract any candidate.  Is he really trying to sell us on Newt?  Why?

Good.  Damned power hungry RINO.  Never much cared for him, can’t say I’d ever miss him again.

But it OK according to rush…the’re buddies

Apparently the implosion was brought on by Callista Gingrich

Ouch.  Nice video at Althouse however!

That’s been my take, too.  Don’t much care for Perry, although I bet he’d be preferable to Obumblefuck.

Fool hasn’t been nominated much less elected and here he is already running off to Europe. To God Damn Greece, yet, of all places.

To call it an implosion implies something was there to collapse. Newt is the tree in forest who wasn’t even there himself to hear himself fall.

McGehee, I’m surprised you liked this obvious Anamika clone.

    The Delaware Witch? Really?

Funny, I’d rather have Perry than pretty much anyone in the race except Palin and Cain. And if Cain doesn’t man up on the Second Amendment, he’s going to drop off my list right quick.

I didn’t read that far — I was agreeing with this:

I’m pretty certain all these retread candidates just see this as a way of raising their Hannity value.

    What took them so long?

  • http://thepagantemple.blogspot.com/ ThePaganTemple

The “Delaware Witch” as you call her was absolved of all wrongdoing by the Federal Election Commission, which declared that the suit filed against was in fact frivolous. Try again. Better yet, “STFU”

I think that’s kind of the point. When elected officials stick to their job description and otherwise stay out of the way the citizens of any state, or the country, prosper and the country prospers.

If Cain is weak on the Second Amendment he’s off my list as of this second. Well, not OFF the list, but he’s pretty far down, like around Ron Paul territory.
