What depths of self-hatred could lead someone to this?

Nathan, born Nancy, Verhelst, 44, was given legal euthanasia, most likely by lethal injection, on the grounds of “unbearable psychological suffering” on Monday afternoon. . . .
“I was the girl that nobody wanted,” Mr Verhelst told Het Laatste Nieuws newspaper in the hours before her death. . . .
Mr Verhelst had hormone therapy in 2009, followed by a mastectomy and surgery to construct a penis in 2012. But “none of these operations worked as desired”.
“I was ready to celebrate my new birth,” he told the newspaper. “But when I looked in the mirror, I was disgusted with myself. My new breasts did not match my expectations and my new penis had symptoms of rejection. I do not want to be… a monster.”
The case will revive Belgium’s debate over medical euthanasia as statistics show a steep year on year increase in the number of patients killed by doctors after a request to die.

The distance between one’s desires and one’s reality can most easily be shortened by accepting reality. The alternative of pursuing hopelessly unrealistic desires is likely to end unhappily.

    Note that Joey Returns refers to the deceased transexual as “she” rather than “he.” Not a very good Leftist in my book. He might need a course in transphobia.

    Well said, I wanted to blog about this well, but I find so very sad, the suffering this girl went through because of her cruel, demented mother. And compounded by the fact that no one around her helped in any way.
    Not only that, every single liberal she came across just egged her on to complete self-destruction and to do everything opposite from dealing with (getting psychological treatment for) the enormously painful trauma she was left with.

    In this case, every single liberal involved has blood on their hands.

    It is barbaric. If feel like we are living in the 17th century.

    It is really horrible. And that this child who then grew up to be an adult was all messed up is not something they did by choice, but what about all the demented adults surrounding this woman telling her that she should mutilate her body instead of getting psychological treatment for what her mother did to her?

    These people are criminal. They are disgusting.

    And I am banned from commenting on the First Things blog. So I couldn’t respond to one of FT’s commenters who incessantly promoters homosexuality, called Franklin.

    Someone said: “Anyone who understands logic could see this kind of thing coming, but it’s still a shock.”

    Franklin answered: “How so? A person who obviously felt very strongly that, although biologically female, s/he was in reality male took the drastic action of sex-reassignment surgery.”

    Although he elaborates further, that’s in a nutshell the same trash people who normalize homosexuality claim. Instead of investigating why they have such warped minds, they simply claim to be “born that way.”

    And if you don’t bow down to their idiocy, you’re the ignorant one.

    And if anyone is doubt, of course, there is therapy that can help people with just about any psychological problem related to relationships, gender, or sexuality. It doesn’t mean any therapist can or that therapy will work every time , but therapy as a method and other therapeutical experiences can be effective in a variety of ways.

    Exactly – You can take the LGBT out of the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), but you can’t take the profoundly deformed psychological problems out of the LGBT folks.

    And to compound things, all we see is impunity. First, this mother should be publicly shamed for the rest of her life. And an investigation should be opened regarding all professionals involved in the case (doctors, etc).

    This case needs to be publicized everywhere.

    You know what a group of activists should do? In the next Proud of What parade, they should fly an airplane over the parade and drop thousands of little postcards with this woman’s story – and we could add Frank Lombard’s case too. Just for starters.
