The ‘Optics’ of Tyranny

Posted on | October 5, 2013 | 79 Comments

With the mainstream media enthusiastically parroting Democrat “shutdown” propaganda, they think they can get away with anything:

In a stunning development, some military priests are facing arrest if they celebrate mass or practice their faith on military bases during the federal government shutdown.

Da Tech Guy soberly observes:

I suspect arrest of Catholic Priests for saying mass will be extremely popular with some the Democrat base, particularly those celebrating Wendy Davis.

Article 15 and court martial are mutually exclusive. If you are assigned shipboard, then an Article 15 is something you have no choice on. Army and Air Force, however, Article 15 is an option to the accused, although they don’t have to offer it to you. If you know they “gotcha,” then Article 15, if offered, is the way to go because they are very limited as to what they can do to you. A Court Martial, however, can be one of three different options and that choice is not made for you. Some charges will get you a General Court Martial no matter what you like. It is also the level they can do the most to you. The other two, Summary and Special Courts Martial are also available to the convening authority. A summary Court Martial was held on Sylvania while I was in the QM gang in ’74, and is the lowest level of court, and is basically the equivalent of a civilian bench trial. A special will have 3 officers, IIRC, and I’ve never heard of one being convened (not the same as one never having been convened, just not in my knowledge). Each level of court can do more to you. So, it sometimes depends on who you have made mad as to which you may get. If the charges are fairly minor, then you’ll most likely be offered an Article 15 proceeding.

He is shutting down anything patriotic and anything that has defied him such as the Catholic church. He is a petty little man and should have been impeached a long time ago.

Word will get out in spite of the MSM. Google and Yahoo will have to work overtime to bury the SEO/tags for these types of stories to keep the incredulous from researching the truth.
This is the kind of behavior that bring violence. Which is what Obama requires in order to take the next step.

The question put before any member of our military is “what is an illegal order?” Our military has been re-trained over the last few years, and many folks cheered the changes.
It is not illegal to forbid religious services. Our military has been rapidly de-Christianizing for several years (see also Mickey Weinstein).
It is not illegal to prevent civilians from entering a place, or performing an action. Civilians have no receipts showing they purchases access to government facilities.
If given the order to execute civilians, under the re-definition of “Domestic Enemies,” as has been done by the Prognazis, then soldiers can legally execute civilians.
Our military has been trained to believe Christians are the #1 (and pretty much only) Domestic Enemy. Recall the minor upset over the stories of the DoD training presentations stating so. Without the morality of Christians, there is nothing preventing our Army and other services from becoming Obama’s own Revolutionary Guard.

What is a Presidential Order in this instance if not ‘undue command influence’?

My understanding is that the emergency defense bill that did pass House and Senate and was signed by Obama provided funding at current levels for all Pentagon employees, not only active duty military. Hagel furloughed a good number of civilians anyway as well as the chaplains, but most have already been recalled since he had no authority to lay them off. Chuck’s not the sharpest knife in the draw, even if the rest are spoons.

So many of Obama’s overt actions in this shutdown have been so egregious, like closing open-air 24/7 monuments and parks and even shutting down operations not funded by the federal government just for spite. If more people follow those Honor Flight vets and crash the Barrycades, the Park Police can’t arrest everyone. And the optics might be just the thing that turns public opinion our way.

Exactly. Only hard core leftists within the Church get to act with abandon – like Nuns chaining themselves to fences at nuke installations.

Anyone who takes their responsibilities seriously knows that the consequences for the people they would be ostensibly serving could be severe. At which point you are doing them a disservice and maybe causing them harm.

That is my fear. The younger officers and enlisted have a different education prior to entering service and a much different training and culture once inside than what existed before.

Due to the massive militarization of the police, the military being all but disarmed here at home (and ordered to stand down as at the Navy Yard shooting) I fear we are getting close to a very dangerous scenario wherein Obama uses the 14th amendment to seize control over the spending authority and the ‘silent majority’ finally speak, rising up against him. The militarized police will keep us under control while the military is culled, those against an endless totalitarian regime not separated like in the Civil War but executed by these younger folks. Those are my fears and I pray God they stay just fears!

The idiot we have posing as POTUS has placed a lot of prosecutions in jeopardy because he just ran his mouth. An executive order would be even worse and would force tehe end of a prosecution. It would depend on the presiding officer being honest, which could be a bridge too far.

At present the Police don’t scare me. There are more than sufficient numbers of people with Military Training that could easily make short work of the cops. No matter what is said about them, the Police are basically cowards when it comes to the populations they like to lord over and men with the attitudes of soldiers will make very short work of them.

If Moslem “worship” has not been curtailed, then any charges made against a RC Chaplain for saying mass would be thrown out. Any orders to a Chaplain not to engage in his duties, without there being a very compelling reason (e.g. active combat which the troops are engaged in), is an illegal order. Conducting Divine Services is one of the primary duties of a Chaplain. Charging them with trespass would be nothing short of clownish and would subject any CO to such ridicule he would never be able to conduct himself as a CO again.

Chaplains are commissioned officers and none of them were furloughed. There are a few places where there were RCC priests under contract, whose contracts may have been canceled, but the Chaplains were not furloughed.

  25. rmnixondeceased
    October 6th, 2013 @ 3:22 pm

True. I know of no Chaplains being furloughed only contract Priests being furloughed. I wonder if it the same at Federal Prisons where the Chaplain is a Priest (all chaplains that serve BOP facilities are either employees/contractors of the BOP or ‘volunteers’).

    You are correct.
I’m thinking back to the DHS bulk ammunition purchases that came to light last year.
If one were a conspiracy theorist, he might posit that Mr. Obama’s administration has been preparing for just this type of situation.
Not that I put any faith in such theories :/
