Washington Post Smears Koch

Posted on | March 21, 2014 | 13 Comments

John Hinderaker at Powerline shows how two Washington Post writers produced a story based on a report by “the far-left International Forum on Globalization” which falsely claims Koch Industries is “the biggest lease owner” in the Alberta tar sands, so as to create the equally false impression that the XL Pipeline is all about benefiting “the fortune of conservative Koch brothers Charles and David.”

Well, now we know what Harry Reid is going to snarl about from the Senate floor today.

BTW WaPo – Contact your legal department. Have them research L-I-B-E-L.

So, when will they go after George Soros? (A real life supervillian if there ever was one.)

We’ll, not technically a smear because it doesn’t say anything bad about them. But it is incorrect. And now that they have created their hate target, they use it for an all purpose dirtier. Keystone bad because the Koch Brothers are for it. Drug testing welfare recipients bad because Koch Brothers are for it.

Doesn’t matter that these things aren’t technically true, they were said by Leftists in pursuit of justice, so that makes them “true.” False stories aren’t necessarily ineffective. Harry Reid knows that quite well. Ask him about Mitt Romeys taxes. What he will tell you won’t be true, but will be effective.

I quit reading Powerline in 2008 when they went full-bore squish. But they still do good work over there.

There are so many things wrong with that story, it’s hard to know where to start.
    1) the basic facts were wrong
    2) the correct facts were easily available via Google et al.
    3) WaPo relied on a disreputable source
    4) the blatant conflict of interest in at least one of the reporters (Juliet Eilperin), who is married to one of the writers on climate policy for the Center for American Progress!

You had to read down to the last paragraph for that gem in #4.

I believe I’ve seen Eilperin on the PBS News Hour. Their embrace of her stories is always credulous and breathless, so I don’t suppose they’ll ever get around to asking her about her conflict of interest.

And as an aside, she’s ugly as hell. Just thought I’d mention that.

I tried to call Reid’s home phone number to ask him about this, but I somehow got redirected to the NAMBLA hotline.

So… what have we learned? Goddamned Commies are Goddamned liars, too. Turning to other news… water is wet, and sun mysteriously re-appeared in the sky today, albeit slowly; women and minorities hardest hit.

And using Dingy Harry’s own standard, it’s up to him to prove it’s not true.

This whole smear Koch thing is about intimidating other potential conservative donors from being conservative donors. It is a mafia style intimidation thing. The Koch Brothers are hardly right wing ideologues. They support the arts, are more libertarian than right wing. But they are not supporting libtard think tanks (talk about an oxymoron) or progressive policies like Soros so they are “evil.”
