The Flap Over EmailGate Makes No Sense

Her Majesty wasn’t any more cavalier in offering a Bronx cheer to the spirit and letter of the law concerning official business than she has been at any point in her Hillustrious career. The only surprise is that any peasant scum out there on the plantation are surprised.

No.

Update, as Jazz put it:

I agree with Allahpundit, at least in as far as saying that the Clintons don’t *think* they are above the law. They know it. And as long as the public is willing to look the other way and conclude that anything bad said about Hillary is a media mountain created out of a molehill, they’re not going to change their vote. In order to make this stick in a meaningful way which might result in Hillary either dropping out or losing the election, she would need to be personally brought up on charges. And really… who can be bothered to do that?

The legal system is impotent in the face of this. The only place to do anything about it is the court of public opinion. The only time is 2016. The plaintiffs are the voters.

    This was known for years.

The only reason it was brought up now was to derail Clinton’s presidential run.

That means breaking the law (or at least the policy) was never the issue. That’s perfectly OK unless you aren’t a Democrat. No, the issue was that Hillary can’t be allowed to have the nomination.

Which says quite a bit about the leadership in the Democrat party. It was and always has been the “party of privilege.”

So will Warren go off the reservation?

Leave it to Hillary to be neck-deep in two simultaneous scandals before even starting her campaign.

I remember when we were a nation of laws.

    Good times.

Which is odd. Who else are they going to run if not Hillary?

Elizabeth Warren, maybe, but I don’t think she’s got the name recognition (then again, neither did Barack Obama).

Joe Biden? If the Dems push Biden they are playing to lose short term. Nobody’s going to vote for Biden for anything bigger than court jester.

The obvious question is: why did Mrs Clinton choose to use a private e-mail address rather than the State Department one? Her minions would have set it up for her, so it wouldn’t have been any imposition on her.

That is the question which she has to be asked, and asked, and asked, until she actually answers.

If it was “known” that Hillary had her own email & was using the DoS as a refined global panhandling operation, then those with knowledge were complicit and essentially letting her buy herself off for 2008.

If those knowing were also of the GOP, and the plan was to save that knowledge to nullify her 2016 chances, then staying silent seems kind of an indirect payoff to Her Majesty.

“Sorry you’re not the first female President; go pile you up some loot as a consolation prize.”

I hope that’s not the case. It’s not comfortable thinking that one’s most cynical thought might be true.

It was known for years, by every government official to whom she sent an e-mail, or who needed her e-mail address to send her something. And that means it was known by the President and the Attorney General; they went along with it just as well as did everybody else.

I expect that our media, which shows a remarkable diversity (if not selectivity) in what they are curious about, will never ask such a question.

Clinton’s never wait for permission to pile up loot, it’s their right for all the good they’ve done.
As I understand it, it was Gowdy’s committee that discovered this or at least brought it to light a couple months a go. Prior to that numerous private groups having submitted FIOA requests to State for Hillary,s emails got the response ‘we have no documents responsive to that request’ or words to that effect.
Don’t underestimate this or the foreign money scandal. Obviously when Democrats particularly the Clinton’s do things that are illegal those acts are not crime crimes, but this story is getting some legs. For one it will introduce a new generation to the Clinton’s. Secondly it appears that there are some on the left who see an opportunity here.

She didn’t just have a private email account she had a privatet email system. She had her own server.

    March 5th, 2015 @ 12:03 pm

Well, it’s likely that you wouldn’t be emailing her directly. You’d make a call, and get an email address of some lackey, and communicate through them.

Unless you were one of the “cool kids”.

  16. Adobe_Walls
    March 5th, 2015 @ 12:07 pm

True, except that every ”journalist” or lefty who wants an alternative to Hillary sees an opportunity here.

In theory her email system could have been part of the government system.

    March 5th, 2015 @ 12:25 pm

Not any real-world theory. You don’t put private crap on public hardware.

  19. Adobe_Walls
    March 5th, 2015 @ 12:34 pm

True but if one wanted to believe or just wasn’t curious the obvious implications I.E. that the purpose of this system was for her to maintain personal control of her emails forever could have been ignored. One of the problems with this arrangements is security. Apparently ( according to Marie Harf) is that State Department personnel have two DoS email accounts. One classified and one not. This means that Clinton’s non-secure email system was interacting with other’s secure email accounts.

Since we have a “sitzpinkler” for POTUS now, it’s too late for Hillary.

In 2001 Hillary wondered aloud and on camera why, given her history, why she would use email at all. At the time she obviously didn’t know she’d eventually become Sec of State and would have to use email. When she became Secretary of State she new instinctively that she knew needed an email system whose records she could control.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2015/03/04/krauthammer_on_clinton_emails_weve_seen_this_movie_before_a_version_of_it_depends_on_what_the_word_is_is.html

Leaving aside any potential criminality, she has two political problems arising out of this kerfuffle. One is that some on the left seem see this as a useful cudgel perhaps to create a path for another Dem candidate. How effective that is remains to be seen.
Her second problem is Trey Gowdy’s committee. She has expressed a willingness to appear before the Benghazi committee, in order to get it over with the sooner the better. One presumes she feels that the more time she has to deal with what ever damage is done the better. However Gowdy insists that his committee requires all the relevant documents including emails and time to review them in order to do their job properly. This is why her personnel email system came to light in the first place. I suspect having Hillary’s team solely in charge of determining what emails are relevant will not satisfy Gowdy. The longer this proccess drags out and delays her appearance before the committee, the closer to election it will be providing less time for damage spin and control. At some point she may conclude that refusing to appear is her better option. That decision has some obvious political downsides as well.

bugs me that no investigative reporter will try to find out who the exchange admin was since that person (by default however it can be changed but is often forgotten by people who don’t use exchange a lot) has access to every single email on server.
so some guy/girl from anywhere could have had full time access to every email our Sec of State sent.

I don’t think she’s strong enough. Clinton is right about one thing, there is a bias against a female candidate. Most of it is coming from the Democrats though.

I think the reason Biden got to be VP was to keep Obama from getting impeached.

I don’t know who the Democrats will run with. I never expected Obama this early last time either.

I do think there was a sort-of cabal last time that just wanted anyone but Hillary.

Obama was never in any danger of impeachment and certainly not with the current GOP leadership.

    Please.

Now if Obama really really wanted to be double triple quadruple dare impeachment proof with the GOP leadership, just make Ted Cruz vice president.

  33. Joe Katzman
    March 6th, 2015 @ 10:18 pm

Simple. She wanted to keep her emails from Obama, VJ, et. al.

Not even slightly joking here. I don’t think she fully considered that this implicitly meant sharing all her emails with Putin and Xi; she has always been cluelessly corrupt.

Somewhere, Kevin Spacey is muttering “Can’t anyone in this town play this game?!?”
