Wasting Too Many Words

Daniel Larison titles a post “McCain’s Integrity” — meaning Cousin John — and then expends more than 900 words analyzing something that doesn’t exist.
John McCain has no integrity. Period.
Update: (Smitty) Your attention is drawn to American Freedom’s “John McCain’s Whimsical World of Conservatism 2005-2007” for a fumble-by-fumble description of why we need fewer tools and more Americans on the November ballot.

Every time you write “J.D. Hayworth for US Senate,” God kills a puppy and calls the local clinic to find out why nobody’s been sent around with a Thorazine injection for you yet.

Stacy I have to differ with you here.
It is true that Hayworth is a better candidate and would vote with me more but to say McCain has NO integrity just is unfair.
Remember he stood supporting the surge publicly defending it when quite a few republicans wanted to head for the hills. That support is directly responsible for the success we are having in Iraq today.
Now if you want to argue that he is not conservative enough or that he has decided his convictions are “flexible” now that he is in the fight of his life but “no integrity” I just can’t go along with that.

Remember what happened the last time Republicans took over congress?
Nothing. Oh yeah, they stopped Clinton care, but then went and morphed into Democrat lite. It’s time to ROLL IT BACK. I don’t think McCain is going to be aboard that train.

I am not particularly thrilled with John McCain, but he gave us Sarah Palin and I am less thrilled about losing a SENATE seat to the democrats. Say what you will about Mac Daddy McCain, but he managed to vote correctly this year. If Hayworth can win and hold this seat (and I have my doubts since he lost his congressional seat in Arizona which presumably would be easier to hold) great.
Becareful what you wish for.
Then again, I read something crap like this and I almost want to move to Arizona, establish residency so I can vote for Hayworth.

I agree with datechguy, McCain’s issue is not integrity, McCain’s issue is he is liberal and progressive on some issues (while being conservative on others). That is why he infuriates.
Hawyworth is conservative. Unfortunately he says stupid things, has some ethics issues to deal with, and is not the strongest candidate.

Situation A: If a Conservative and a Moderate(Liberal) are running in a Republican primary, and either candidate looks able to win the general election, vote for the Conservative.
Situation B: If the ModLib Republican looks to have a *much* better chance in the general election, hold your nose and vote for the ModLib Republican.
In some other year, maybe you could vote for the Conservative “to make a point”, but the risk and potential consequences of retaining a Dem majority are too great to take the chance this year.
Trouble is, I don’t know whether Arizona is a situation A or B case:
from Rasmussen, April 13
Election 2010: Arizona Senate
John McCain (R)54%
Rodney Glassman (D)32%
Some other candidate 8%
Not sure 6%
J.D. Hayworth (R)48%
Rodney Glassman (D)39%
Some other candidate 7%
Not sure 7%
Now I know I’m going to get people telling me a RINO is no better than a democrat, but the fact is, in the real world, that’s just not true – maybe on a particular issue (say McCain on immigration) that’s true – but *overall* a RINO is still going to vote right more often than even a Blue Dog democrat will. I don’t like it either, but there it is!
The choice we want to make is not always going to give us the result we want, just ask a liberal who voted for Ralph Nader.

Sam, if the RINO gives away the farm on important things- such as the Gateway to Socialized Medicine Act, the We Hate the First Amendment Act, various Incumbent Protection Laws, the Who Cares Who’s President, Only Democrats Can Appoint Judges fiasco, and the Create 12 Million New Democratic Voters At Once Act… it doesn’t matter how he votes on everything else.

McCain lost his vast integrity (as demonstrated by his valor in war) when he assumed elected office.
He did nothing but oppose his party from 2000 – 2007, so the Republicans did the logical thing by running him as their candidate.
Everytime I looked at him, Bob Dole sprang immediately to mind.
At this point, he is a shamelss whore.
Now, the co-sponsor of the Kennedy-McCain amnesty bill supports Arizona’s strict new anti-illegal alien legislation.
He has no remaining core values and principles whatsoever.

DaveP, it does matter if the RINO gives away the farm on 99 out of 100 bills and the Democrat does so on 100 out of the 100 bills, then the RINO is still better **if that is our only two choices**. It is unrealistic to assert that a Barney Frank clone sitting in the same seat as McCain for those 8 years would not have been worse. Based on some numbers I plucked of the internet, his ACU conservative rating in the Senate was 82%, in 2006 37 Republican Senators were more conservative, 16 were more liberal, but ZERO of the Dem Senators rated more conservative. I’m not saying he’s a conservative. Yes, he screwed up on a lot of important issues. Yes, I disagree with him on all of those issues. Yes, we would be better off with a true conservative in the seat, and if we can be certain or at least very sure of getting that result, we should go for it, but to say that a RINO is worse or just as bad as a Democrat so it makes no difference is to suggest cutting off our noses to spite our face.

The bigger problem with McCain, regardless of his ACU rating is his unreliability. A RINO can be worse than someone with a lower rating simply because you don’t know if you can trust him. At least with the Dimocrats you know where you stand. With Juan McCain, not so much.
I think J.D. can beat the Dimocrat come fall. I certainly hope he has the chance because McCain need to go home. We’ve had enough of that moron.
