14-Year-Old Anamika Veeramani Wins National Spelling Bee; Sen. Jake Knotts Could Not Be Reached for Comment

Posted on | June 4, 2010 | 21 Comments

Will Folks, on the other hand . . oh, no, let’s don’t go there:

No theatrical flourishes for Anamika Veeramani. She kept her hands behind her back and rattled off the letters of every word she was given — until she was crowned the spelling bee champion.
The 14-year-old girl from North Royalton, Ohio, won the 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee on Friday, acing the word medical word “stromuhr” to claim the winner’s trophy and more than $40,000 in cash and prizes.
Anamika became the third consecutive Indian-American bee champion, and the eighth the last 12 years. . . .
There was a three-way tie for second. Adrian Gunawan, 14, of Arlington Heights, Ill.; Elizabeth Platz, 13, of Shelbina, Mo.; and Shantanu Srivatsa, 13, of West Fargo, N.D., were all eliminated in the same round.

Congratulations, Anamika. My advice: Avoid South Carolina.

Sad that a vibrant and encouraging election cycle for the GOP has to go through stuff like this.

But, congrats, Anamika! What are they going to say next, these spelling-bee-winning immigrants ain’t speakin’ English good?

While I applaud her achievement, I do feel bad for her at the same time. The vast majority of these top spelling bee kids are the victims of nutjob a-hole stage mom/dads who place intense, undue pressure on them from early childhood on. An article I read about this girl mentioned that she “only” started studying for this in September because she had spent her entire summer vacation working on her science fair project. That is not what a 14 year old should be spending their summer doing. Sadly, she will only know “childhood” from having learned to spell the word.

Thanks, Joe. Remember the true sleazebags are Folks, Bauer, Marchant, Donehue, Knotts, and Richter. Even most of the entrenched establishment, which is corrupt as hell, isn’t that sleazy.

As to the folks of Indian descent, perhaps they will learn the wisdom of this “travel advisory” when we elect Haley as Governor.

People who come from a state which gave us such shining stars as Talmadge, Carter, Young, and McKinney ought not be starting interstate pissing contests.

As with everything you see in the MSM it’s what they leave out that’s important.

Was she a product of Ohio’s public school system? Or was she (Gasp!) homeschooled? Or did she attend one of those “elitist” private schools? Take a guess, and then click on the link.

Yay – is your use of illiterate texting gibberish in praise of a SPELLING bee champ meant to be intentionally ironic, or just lacking self-awareness?
