Toomey GOP Weekly Address: C+

Posted on | August 15, 2010 | 20 Comments

by Smitty

Toomey speaks clearly and plainly. As a relative new guy, he’s beholden to the party line: Democrats are irresponsible.

The complaint seems more one of style than substance, however.

I can’t foresee any long-term improvement until a more Tea Party attitude of limited, Constitutional, Federalist government takes hold.

This Democrat-lite talk is rather ghey and should throw itself under the Straight Talk Express, if we’re going to do more than slow our transition into Europe.

I always wondered: does anyone actually pay any attention to these weekly addresses? And, if so, who? (Besides, apparently, Smitty.)

    Democrats are irresponsible.

    So are most “Mainstream” Republicans.

If they think they are going to survive as a party with folks like Toomey, they better think again.

“Better than Obama” is not good enough for me. My little puppy dog would meet that standard.

The “Status-Quo” Republicans are probably going to get a break this year, but I’d really think about the long term prospects, were I them, because in 2012 a lot of us are not going to be accepting any excuses or platitudes any more.

I don’t trust the McCain wing of the Republican Party to fix what Obama has broken, and I demand that it be fixed. If I don’t think they will, I’ll go to someone else, and a third party.

A cardboard cutout of Roger Rabbit would beat that standard.
Your assessment of the status quo Republicans is correct. This is why IMHO it is so important that Candidates such as Sharon Angle and Rand Paul get elected this year. It’s not so much their policy preferences as the fact that they are out there on the edges. It’s up to us to keep those who serve us in line so we have to pay attention. Having a few geese in the yard ready squawk when things are amiss will be a big help.

Excuse me Smitty, Pat Toomey is a solid conservative candidate. Remember, we had Arlen in the seat in 2004 when Mr Fire and Brimstone (Santorum) made the “principled choice” to support Arlen over Toomey. And are you going to stoke Rick’s campaign this year since he is sooooo, B+ compared to Pat Toomey? Santorum was stomping for one of the guys besmirching Nikki Haley last month but then again he is not boring. A well respected man about town, doing the best things so concerned about it… I would say the good politicians are hardly ever of the radical or flash in the pan (Doug Hoffman) type. The the boring “C+” type (as you see it) are often the solid performers and winners.

Toomey was a Tea Party guy long before there was a Tea Party.

True, in those days conservatives would just have viewed fringe candidates like Paul and Angle as nuts. Now many are all too eager to embrace the nuts – and nutty crooks like Hayworth – and abandon conservative allies of long standing over a single vote or two, or now apparently over a tepid speech.

The people who turned out for the Tea Parties weren’t fringe nuts at all. They were and are the normal people who hadn’t been actively involved in politics before. Just because a few nuts can say the right things on the major TP issues doesn’t make them representative of any mainstream of conservative or independent thought. They are usurpers who saw the movement of the crowds and ran to the front to pretend to be leading it.

Toomey’s one of the good guys. Look up his tale of the little red hen on YouTube. If he sounds lame here, it’s from the script he was given, as he’s great on the stump.
