Ace Is Absolutely Killing
Posted on | August 20, 2010 | 45 Comments
It would never even occur to me, or any decent person, to erect a Museum of American Achievements in Aviation in Hiroshima.
And here he makes an analogy so brilliant I’m ashamed I didn’t think of it myself. Having been endlessly lectured by our enlightened betters about the need to be sensitive to the feelings of victims, we are now informed that sensitivity toward the survivors of 9/11 ought to trumped by sensitivity toward Muslims.
We detect here the aroma of those “smelly little orthodoxies which now contend for our souls.”

I keep expecting someone to adopt the theory that the proposed site is a great place to exercise a little KELO (KELO V. NEW LONDON)action.
Given the Supremes reasoning of tax income being in the public interest…which makes more sense – a TAX EXEMPT mosque or giving the site to a business that will pay taxes? Just asking.

If only the proposal was to build a bin Laden statue or an Al Queda museum–given you also accept that the mass killings of the civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was American terrorism–that analogy would make any sense.

I guess that now that it is longer bad form to tread upon the sensibilities of an aggrieved group, we can now all start using the “N” word again and all the folks down in the south can pull out and display their stars and bars again. What a bunch of “retards” we all have been for adjusting our language and customs to not cause someone else grief.

Actually, the analogy is spot on if you understand the nuance of the comparison. On the face of it, it is a comparison of the US a-bombing of Hiroshima/Nagasaki and the terrorist attack on WTC/Pentagon/Pen. But that is not the what is being analogized. What Ace is comparing are the people of Hiroshima/Nagasaki and of Japan and the people of NY/Wash/Pen and the people of the USA. They have been harmed, justifiably or not. They have suffered irreparable damage as a people that will last for generations. They have a great weeping wound that has scabbed or is scabbing over but will leave a permanent scar. And like any scar, it is sensitive and can be reopened. Because of this, anyone with the slightest bit of common decency would refrain from scouring that scar with abrasive actions.

Really Stacy? You think that’s a great analogy? Your standards are low. That comparison is so lame that it makes me wonder if I haven’t ben giving your side too much credit.
“Having been endlessly lectured by our enlightened betters about the need to be sensitive to the feelings of victims, we are now informed that sensitivity toward the survivors of 9/11 ought to trumped by sensitivity toward Muslims.”
That is even lamer than Ace’s analogy.
The only people claiming that we need to be sensitive to anyone’s feelings are those who seek to stop Project 51 from happening. The only ones talking about “feelings” are those who seek to usurp the Constitution.
Nice try. Let’s see what you come up with next time….

4 eyes … so saying you think they should build elsewhere is usurping the Constitution ?
Really … ??? you want to make that argument ???
Do you think that someone disagreeing with you is censoring you ?
you have to stop bringing an intellectual pen knife to these fights …
You do make a great point though … the only ones talking about feelings ARE the folks opposed to the mosque … the supporters are openly dismissing the feelings of the survivors … and your point is what ? That they are right to do so ?
There are clearly alot of moderate Mulsims who oppose this location as well … you know, OUT OF SENSITIVITY for the survivors …

Unfortunately the folks at the Agitator say anyone opposed to the Cordoba House is a bigot. And BTW, only New Yorkers get a say. Unless they are the 64% of New Yorkers opposed. Then they are bigots too.
I generally like libertarians. But man can they be myopic.

Jeff, if your comebacks were any weaker I’d suspect that you were just released from a mental institute. That or you listen to talk radio religiously.
“so saying you think they should build elsewhere is usurping the Constitution ?”
No, saying that they should build elsewhere is not, but actively seeking to have them build elsewhere is an usurpation of the Constitution. I’m sure this point will fly over your head like so many other things in life.Don’t look now, but I just made the argument.Keep looking…
“Do you think that someone disagreeing with you is censoring you ?”
No.What’s your point again? Besides the one on top of your head?
“the supporters are openly dismissing the feelings of the survivors … and your point is what ? That they are right to do so ?”
Supporters are openly dismissing the feelings of the survivors? Were your survivor? Is everyone opposed to the project a survivor? Want to gloss over the fact that there are survivors who support the project? Including some Republicans? Face it, even if ALL the survivors supported the project you and and the rest of the troglodytes would oppose it.
“There are clearly alot of moderate Mulsims who oppose this location as well … you know, OUT OF SENSITIVITY for the survivors …”
Yeah, and they are wrong.
Jeff, you keep going against an army when all you have is a handgun. Stop embarrassing yourself…

You’ve adjusted your language? Calling and using the N-word is a custom of yours? Have you heard recently of “Dr.” Laura?
What about Virginia’s recent ” Confederate History month?
Yeah, you keep accommodating your “customs” in order not to cause others grief.

I don’t see any nuance in the Ace’s whole…analogy. The point you are trying to make–one must “refrain from scouring that scar”, show “decency” etc–would be be better formulated with an analogy that compares the reactions towards the “ground zero mosque” to say this:
It would never even occur to me, or any decent person, to built a private school for English speaking Japanese and the children of western diplomats(that includes Americans), that has “nuclear physics” as part of their science curriculum, in Hiroshima or Nagasaki or 200 miles anywhere from the point of impact of the two bombs.
In the above analogy, the mosque opposition is as if the entire Japanese population–not just the residents of Nagasaki and Hiroshima–are overwhelmingly opposed to this new private school. But this is so silly. The Japanese are not so reatred as most mos
