Two Excellent Arguments in Favor of a Jon Huntsman Presidency

At tonight’s Hillsborough County GOP dinner I had the enormous pleasure of meeting Mary Anne and Abby Huntsman:

For all the grief I’ve given “Governor Asterisk” in the past several months, I must confess that his daughters were not only lovely, but also quite gracious. I gave them one piece of advice: “Whatever you do, don’t turn into Meghan McCain.”

They laughed: “Don’t worry about that!”

UPDATE (Smitty): Welcome, Instapundit readers! If I may pile on the advice, Chelsea Clinton might be worth a wide berth.

UPDATE II (RSM): Just want to point out that, despite the charm and pulchritude of Mary Anne and Abby, the Santorum surge is still the big story.

    Glad you are having fun on the trail.  I think Jon Huntsman is a good man and he seems to have a very nice family.  But while I would support him over Barack Obama, I can safely tell him he is not going to be the nominee.  But I wish his family and him well.  

    But I had to respond to a post from Andrew Sullivan with this.

    It’s probably a good thing Huntsman didn’t compete in Iowa, where I might have been tempted to offer the girls a ride in the Mustang.

    Stacy posted a video of Newt, promising a video of Santorum to follow.  Stacy is seen with two Huntsman chicks on his arms. 

    No Santorum video, nothing further from Stacy.

    What happens in Nashua, stays in Nashua.

    Huntsman’s great-looking family is a plus. He’s also got many excellent conservative positions. But I’ll tell ya, the dripping contempt he has for the most active other Republican-leaning voters and would-be voters (i.e., Tea Partiers) is a real turn-off.

    The jokes on him because evidently he’s the only person in the country who hasn’t caught on that he’s going nowhere in this race, and from the looks of things isn’t even going to be a factor. So much for him being so much better than the rest of us.

    I have friends and family who live in Utah,  they quite like Huntsman and he did a good job when he was governor there.  Utah is in pretty good financial shape and is a state with a little unfunded liabilities.   They think he is tainted just because Obama picked him as ambassador to China.  They seem to believe Obama did that on purpose to keep him out of this election by putting him in a double bind.  If he didn’t give up the position of ambassador, he couldn’t run for President and if he did give up the position and try to run, he would be tainted by having served in the Obama administration.  They apparently feel he shouldn’t have accepted the position but that it was too good of a strategic move not to accept.

    I don’t know much about the guy, personally, but he was their governor for several years and they all seem to like him (and hate Obama).

    At the Naval Academy? Where does he get off saying,as he did this weekend at the Meet The Press debate, that he has two sons “in the Navy”? That’s not the Navy yet. Why is he trying to mislead the public into thinking they’re haze grey and underway? Oh, that’s troubling.
