I don’t know if I’m really keen on soccer as a kid sport. Football turned me off in 7th grade when I realized the other kids were more interested in causing lots of injuries than actually, you know, playing the game.
For team sports with testosterone, it’s probably lacrosse in summer and hockey in winter. Or whatever the WYB wants to do. I’m just the facilitator.

Fear. You can start feeling it early.

I have one word for you and the WYB – tennis.  It’s something he can play all his life.   He’s not going to be a team guy anyway.  He’ll be like his dad – all indie.

I’m a team player–I just favor smaller teams.

Did you take that picture while watching an Obama speech?

There was a major Obama fan present, but I don’t think there’s a connection.

Looks prettier than Benjamin Button at the same age, in that pic.

Sorry to burst your “But don’t you know, for every father his child is the most beautiful thing  there is?!” bubble.

Better one – golf. Can earn decent living with it beyond one’s 20’s

Martial Arts for self control, self defense and as a sport.  My DD loves tae kwon do, and I wished I would have started her years ago.

I find that shooting sports, especially skeet, a preferred sporting activity (as well as being useful). Give him a few years and start him out with a BB gun (supervised of course … I know you are a good dad). Just a suggestion.

    1.  My cousin played football for Northwestern U (yes, when they were actually winning).   He told my sister not to let her boys play FB until high school.  That advice came not just from his experience as a player w/bad knees, but as a surgeon who spent many hours repairing such injuries.

    2.  Happy First Father’s Day, Smitty!

Tae kwan do, fencing for my son. He didn’t like the team sport since the local parents put a lot, A LOT of pressure on all the kids – but he still plays basketball with his friends when he’s home from college.
