Nice catch, Smitty. I also loved your use of the word “tribute” in the title. Well done!
November 28th, 2012 @ 9:13 pm
Awesome sauce for the silly Marxist goose. *golf clap*
November 28th, 2012 @ 9:17 pm
“Utopian twaddle”
I like that!
November 28th, 2012 @ 9:31 pm
If we imagine there’s no Lennon, then there’s no Yoko to push his Utopian twaddle. Win-win.
November 28th, 2012 @ 10:14 pm
That kind of Smitty awesomeness deserved an RT.
November 28th, 2012 @ 10:38 pm
Actually, John Lennon had become a Republican and was a big fan of Ronald Reagan before he died. He was pretty embarrassed about the twaddle he’d written previously.
November 28th, 2012 @ 11:52 pm
Every time I hear or see a reference to “Imagine” I think of the fact that John & Yoko owned a second entire apartment at the Dakota just to store all their furs at the exact right temperature.
“Imagine no possessions/I wonder if you can” my you know what.
November 28th, 2012 @ 11:53 pm
Pretty snarky for a guy who continually posts videos by the serial plagiarists Led Zeppelin.
November 29th, 2012 @ 1:08 am
Is there any evidence for this? Doesn’t quite ring true to me. But if we’re going to slam him for “Imagine” we should also give him credit for “Revolution” – “But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao you ain’t gonna make it with anyone anyhow”
November 29th, 2012 @ 1:21 am
His former assistant says as much:
http://www.torontosun.com/2011/06/28/lennon-was-a-closet-republican-assistant
November 29th, 2012 @ 3:39 am
What I think of is the marvelous takedown that William F. Buckley did of that song. He completely eviserated it in his own inimitable style; it was a wonder to read.
November 29th, 2012 @ 5:07 am
Is his death day memory now bundled along with his birthday or is it separate? What are we celebrating? A man? Some music? Our own memories?
November 29th, 2012 @ 5:13 am
I signed to Lennon’s *Imagine*. One of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do. The part of my brain that learns new languages must be sleeping.
Like the music however, and sometimes it’s all music to one’s ears, eh?
November 29th, 2012 @ 5:16 am
You know,’ordinary’ people they overestimate their memories, whereas nondualists, zen buddhists and other weirdos underestimate their memories.
Nothing is real, it means that everything is real, if everything is real, then our memories are real too.
As for John Lennon, I’m only interested in his birthday memory, death is not real.
How about evolution,is it real? No,it’s not. But if I say it’s real, then it’s real, I am the Law. You are the Law.
November 29th, 2012 @ 5:28 am
Angie…you could start a story with your imagining setting up house with each one of your biggest twitter fans. That might be interesting and fun. And they can do the same with one another. Talk about strange, weird, and slightly insane takes on living standards. hahaha.
November 29th, 2012 @ 5:35 am
“Although still a major cultural figure, even as his legacy slowly fades against an extroverted society of shallow artistry, few people realize that John Lennon was one of the great Spiritual Seekers of our days. He was a tireless searcher of deeper truths and reality who explored various religious and philosophical traditions, experimented with varied Esoteric Mysteries and psychological theories, expressing it all in code through his timeless music and art. Lennon also considered the Gnostics the true Christians, as well as embodied the soul of the ancient Stoic, Cynic and Platonic Philosophers. We acquaint ourselves with a perennial Mythmaker who made sense of a post-modern and existentialist civilization. We study a life full of tragedy and triumph, and a man who, in the Gnostic spirit, was never satisfied with either. And how his message and life can help us find our own meaning and own gnosis.”
–Gary Tillery, author of ‘The Cynical Idealist: A Spiritual Biography of John Lennon’.
November 29th, 2012 @ 5:47 am
………….yes, imagining is very easy. Just sing that shit-ass song of John lennons and imagine your life away. LOL!!
November 29th, 2012 @ 7:46 am
Forget “Imagine.” I far prefer Harrison’s “Tax Man.”
November 29th, 2012 @ 8:21 am

Imagine there’s no Anamika…
November 29th, 2012 @ 9:39 am
In an audio recording made shortly before his death, he did indeed admit to embarrassment over his idealism and he slams communism.
November 29th, 2012 @ 12:42 pm
That was assume — thanks.
November 29th, 2012 @ 2:08 pm
Thank you very much! The last time I read that was in the (physical) pages of National Review.
November 29th, 2012 @ 2:20 pm
You’re welcome.
Same here.
December 2nd, 2012 @ 7:32 am
Cite a reputable source for your claim. You’re either a liar or an idiot. I vote for the latter.
Pretty sick people here displaying their hate for John Lennon. What’s the point? Hate for hate’s sake. Anger for anger’s sake. You people are sickening.
December 2nd, 2012 @ 7:36 am
Dream on.
