Selling Out Early To Avoid The Rush

If this looks like a Confederate Nazi to you, you might be a UCLA law professor.

If this looks like a Confederate Nazi to you, you might be a UCLA law professor.

Ripped from the pages of this morning’s Memeorandum, we have this piece of half-witted blogging by Professor Bainbridge, in which he masks a none-too-clever slam at Sarah Palin and Mark Levin with a reference to an entirely too long and (toward the end) insanely boring alternate history series by Harry Turtledove. Look, Professor, is it too much to ask that if you’re going to call people Nazis, you just come right out and say it? Has the law school business collapsed so quickly that even Distinguished Professors of Law are trying to land gigs on MSNBC? And if that wasn’t your motive, what the hell compelled you to post this?

Candyass Bainbridge closed his comments on that post. I used to think better of him. Oh, well, back to ““First thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.“

–Shakespeare, King Henry VI, Part II, IV, ii

(Just so’s not to confuse Bainbridge, Shakespeare was quoting Wat Tyler, not, oh, Hermann Goering or somebody…)Richa

I was going to rip him for that, too, but meh – he’s not the only blogger who doesn’t allow comments.

Right, Bainbridge — since a fictional character in a story set in a reality that cannot possibly ever happen because the South didn’t win the Civil War, named his party with the word “freedom,” that delegitimizes the use of the word freedom in the name of any party in actual reality.

    Riiiiight?

The logic escapes me too, but then I’m not a Distinguished Professor of Law.

Professor Bainbridge has not liked Sarah Palin from the get. This is not surprising. He is a moderate Republican Libertarian, at best, and not a conservative. It is sad to see him heading down the Road To Frumtown.

Sarah Palin is right on how the Republicans will lose their base if the House passes an Immigration Bill that (1) does not accomplish border security first and/or that (2) allows 36 million people (11 million who are here illegally + their relatives) to become citizens. That will devastate the middle class Americans — many of whom are of Hispanic heritage. America has always followed the rule of law; now is not the time to stop.

First Palin gets blamed for a statement by an unfunny comedienne about seeing Russia.

Then Ace goes on a 13 hour Twitter tantrum against her because he’s pissed at her supporters.

Now it’s her fault that Harry Turtledove invented a fictional neonazi American party in a series that began before she ever appeared on the public stage.

When someone gets around to challenging her on her actual positions, wake me up

He’s been a professor too long; too used to students who can’t talk back.

Since the fictional party was fictionally founded in 1917, wouldn’t that make them pre-Nazis?

I’ll also point out that the name “Bainbridge” sounds like the name of a Batman villain, but I’m sure the professor is very different from the villain, right?

This is all very disturbing. I’m going to lay down and take a powder.

The way I see it professors at public universities like UCLA are no different from other public employees such as DMV clerks, city bus drivers, and sanitation workers. Say what you want about the Harvards and Yales, but in addition to actually being prestigious they are also private.

How private are they in the end? If they refused to accept federal loan and grant money I imagine they would be a fraction of their current size. Of course all those federal dollars come with plenty of federal rules.

SCOTUS long ago ended the rule of law. Now they are dismembering the body to make sure it doesn’t come back to haunt them.

You totally nailed it. I’d add a lot more, but I’d run afoul of the “Leave Ace Alone” rule.

It is actually true, however, if you are determined to dig deep enough, you can find some really obnoxious Palin supporters.

Of course anyone familiar with Niven’s Law #16 is unsurprised to find this to be true. I’m sure the Distinguished Professor of Law ‘s massive following (surely at least as big as as a certain former Governor of Alaska’s) contains it’s fair share of unwanted camp followers.
