Why Is @Allahpundit Surprised?

Posted on | October 8, 2013 | 57 Comments

“Unbelievable,” he says, that the White House press corps is so servile:

[Obama’s press conference] ran for one hour and six minutes, with 12 different reporters being called on 00 although, notably, not Ed Henry of Fox News — and between them they couldn’t muster one question about the catastrophe that is Healthcare.gov or the spectacle of National Park Rangers locking senior-citizen tourists out of war memorials and/or inside their hotels.

Try this, Allah: Watch MSNBC all day long and keep in mind that, for the vast majority of the reporters covering politics in Washington, MSNBC is the Gospel Truth. Realize that the ambitious younger journalists in the White House press corps dream of the day when they’ll have their own regular spot on MSNBC or, perhaps, they will be appointed to a job in the Obama administration itself, like their hero and mentor, Jay Carney.

All of these reporters are Democrats. They hate and despise Republicans, and consider it their most important duty as journalists to help elect more Democrats and then to help the Democrats to advance their political and legislative agenda. To these reporters, the superiority of the Democrats is an objective fact, and anyone who says a word in favor of Republicans is therefore a liar or a fool or both.

No reporter in the White House press corps watches Fox News, except for amusement, to laugh at it as crude sport. Nor, for that matter, does any reporter in the White House press corps read conservative blogs or Web sites. Insofar as the Internet has any influence on them, the sites that are most influential among D.C. journalists are such venues as Think Progress, Media Matters, Mother Jones and Salon.

Go read Brian Beutler’s savagery toward Republicans and realize that Beutler therein expresses the sentiments of the White House correspondents for ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, the Washington Post, the New York Times, USA Today and the Associated Press.

Was it “unbelievable” that Obama faced no tough questions at the press conference? It would have been unbelievable if he had.

The press corps is a constituency of the Democrat Party in the same way that the AFL-CIO, the NAACP and Planned Parenthood are constituencies of the Democrat Party. If any of them have any criticism of Obama, it arises from the feeling that he is not liberal enough.

Our nation’s “mainstream” media are, actually, Democrat Party propagandists. Let’s stop pretending that they are interested in truth.

Don’t know what’s happened to this guy. He used to be the sharpest tool in the shed but of late he’s either become a dunce or decided to play one on the web. Maybe he’s angling for the next conservative Jay Carney. Either way he’s getting thick as a brick.

I’m not a Democratic Party propagandist. Republicans
are treating Obamacare as if it’s Thermopylae, but the debt limit fight
is actually Thermopylae. Obamacare can be repealed. Default can’t be
repealed. In the debt limit fight, Republicans are, sad to say, the Persians, not the Greeks. I hesitate to call the Democrats the Greeks. Obamacare is evil, but to destroy the country to keep Obamacare from destroying the country makes no sense whatsoever.

Stacy recalls the Old Way, the way in which nearly all reporters were trained, including the early television anchors and reporters, who nearly all came from the newspaper business. Fewer Americans went to college and it was a rare thing for a reporter to have attended at all. More came up through the ranks with perhaps a High School diploma, serving as copy boys or errand boys before being given a chance at reporting.

And it began with garden club banquets and pet parades, then maybe some human interest assignments. Those who did well might get the crime blotter beat. Only those who had learned by experience how to get information and how to impart it concisely ever got near City Hall in those days.

But then came Watergate and the movie about Woodward and Bernstein and suddenly every flower child wanted to be a reporter, but since these were middle class white kids headed to college it created a demand for Journalism classes, which were hastily staffed by the least competent professors in the English Departments. Incidentally, they were virtually all Marxists or close to it, and imparted those values instead of actual journalism because none of them ever worked a day in journalism in their lives. And that became the standard. And the whole news business is dying because of it.

There is no reason for any default. Last year federal revenues were over $2.7 billion and debt service just under $400 billion. Estimates for this year expect interest to total 25% less. It’s down to about 10% of revenue.

Why would you default when the payment is 10% of gross revenue? It makes no sense, and under most readings of the 14th Amendment the President has no authority to default, he has to pay the debt service if the money is there.

Obamacare can be repealed. Default can’t be repealed.

By the way, Disqus does a really bad job if you cut and paste – as you can note above.

Other than noting you’re cutting and pasting, and presuming you’re just saving some effort, that’s not true.

Once you’ve got people enrolled and getting their health care, it’s stuck. Just like Social Security. Just like Medicare.

The Default can be fixed by paying bills on time. Even if we “default” (and if we do, that’s Obama’s ordering payments to his cronies over job requirements again), the faith in the US word will be established once we pay, on time, on schedule.

In other words, you’ve got it backwards. Additionally, Obamacare leads us to default much faster, as it already has caused a massive loss in GDP, massive loss of jobs, and strangled new “revenue” to the government, while increasing outlays.
