Munchausen Blogger Syndrome

#YesAllWomen, anybody? The worst “mommy blogger,” ever:

A 26-year-old “mommy blogger” was arrested Tuesday and charged with murdering her 5-year-old son by poisoning him with salt.
According to the Washington Post, blogger Lacey Spears wove an intricate web of lies about herself and her son on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, and may have killed the boy to satisfy her need for attention and the support of strangers.
The Scottsville, Kentucky woman was indicted in White Plains, New York on second-degree charges of depraved murder and manslaughter in the Jan. 23 death of Garnett Paul Spears. . . .
Garnett, she said, was the son of a police officer named Blake who was killed in a tragic car accident. The Daily Mail claimed that the boy’s father was actually a garage door installer named Chris Hill who lives in Georgia.
In January, the boy was admitted to Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, New York, when doctors noted that his sodium levels were shooting up in a way that was “metabolically impossible” for his body to do on its own. Assistant District Attorney Doreen Lloyd said in court on Tuesday that Lacey Spears would wait for hospital personnel to leave, then inject high doses of sodium into the Garnett’s gastric feeding tube. . . .
She is believed to suffer from Munchausen-by-proxy syndrome, a disorder in which a parent or other caregiver inflicts harm on a child to gain sympathy and support from people outside the family.

There is a place in Hell for her.

…and when she gets there, the Devil himself will have matches and gasoline waiting.

I think Satan would first flay her and rub salt all over her body as a prelude to an eternal dip in the Lake of Fire …

I LOL’d when I read the headline, but that was before I read the story and found out what it really was. I had figured it was a clever RSM angle in going after a lefty idiot.

    She’s a monster.

She is evil but she is very screwed up too. This disorder (which you might remember was a central plot line in the 6th Sense) is unfortunately real. I do not think it excuses the actor for criminal liability (she was not so delusional to not realize what she was doing was wrong) but she is obviously severely messed up too. Lock her up and throw away the key.

The only reason all Munchhausen-by-Proxy cases don’t end in death is that doctors catch onto what is happening early enough.

It is fortunately a rare enough disorder. And it doesn’t qualify for an insanity or diminished capacity defense because the perpetrator invariably keeps their actions secret, demonstrating a consciousness of guilt.

I’m pretty convinced that so called transgender children is another manifestation of Munchausen by proxy.

ProTip: If you’re a mommy-blogger and you kill your child… you’re doing it wrong.

Though it probably does get a lot of hits, at least before the authorities come and take you away. “I killed my son using this one weird trick…”

I’ve seen videos of people like this. They wait for the nurses to leave the room, snap into action, injecting things into their kids’ IVs, then suddenly go all “OMG! What’s happening? Nurse get in here!”

It really looks like a multiple personality disorder.

I think this manchausen by proxy syndrome of which you speak is a load of crap dreamed up by the deranged lunatics who write the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Psychological Disorders.
The only disorder Spears has is she’s an evil soul dead narcissist who murdered a baby so people would pay attention to her pathetic self. Social media can be the hold of every vile sociopath screaming “me, me, me,…look at me”

I’d read this was alleged in the Coy Mathis case…

    Perhaps Nicole Maines, too!

They put these “transgender” children on hormone treatments to prevent puberty, ostensibly to ease later medical and surgical manipulation of their appearance, though I suspect the treatment is primarily useful in keeping them looking fabulous long before then!

If she wanted undeserved attention, instead of killing her own son, she should have gone into politics like all the other evil, soul dead narcissists.

This post at Protein Wisdom makes me think that FDR’s actions and omissions regarding the US economy in the Great Depression and Barack Obama’s actions and omissions regarding the US economy during the Great Recession are examples of Munchausen-by-proxy syndrome.

That was actually the specific case that sprung to mind. If you see what she inflicted on her other children the MbP scenario plays out. Other examples I have stumbled across include lesbians who, of course, want their children to be as sexually perverse as they are; and let’s not forget poor old Nathan Verheist who’s mother always wanted a boy.
