Massachusetts Mayor Complains About Influx of Somali Refugees

The flood of illegal aliens into Texas isn’t the only immigration problem making headlines lately:

A Massachusetts mayor is calling for an end to refugee resettlement in his city, saying Somali families are putting pressure on already strained services in Springfield, a onetime industrial center where nearly a third of the population lives below the poverty line. . . .
Sarno, leader of the state’s third-largest city, first demanded last summer that the U.S. government stop sending refugees. But after recent inspections found Somali families living in overcrowded, pest-infested apartments without electricity and sometimes heat, he stepped up complaints, saying resettlement agencies are bringing in “warm-weather” refugees and dumping them into cold climates only to leave them dependent on the city.
“I have enough urban issues to deal with. Enough is enough,” Sarno said in an interview. “You can’t keep concentrating poverty on top of poverty.”

    I am still looking for an answer why Somalis are a favored refuge group. Don’t we already have enough surly Somali taxi cab drivers? I know when I lived in Columbus, OH this was the case.

    OK, I understand that, individually, they may be lovely people. Since I don’t think I know any Somalis, personally, I’ll assume so, for now. Certainly most of the Mexican and Central American illegals are very kind and gracious, INDIVIDUALLY. However, we are now talking about the importation of poverty. Why would we do this? Do we owe the Somalis something for years of discrimination? How did we do that, when they were not here? Is it about slavery? Oh, no, wait, they were the slave traders of the African East coast. Did we not send enough soldiers to defend the UN food shipments, from Somalis? Whence comes this craziness?

    Oh, the costs are hideous, no doubt about that. Right now there’s nothing even for sale on Cliff Island, but the last times that there were they were selling things which would charitably be called fixer-uppers for half a million dollars.

    But just checking properties in Powell County, Kentucky, and there are decent places that I could buy, now, in cash.

    I’ll see your surly Somali taxi cab drivers and raise you surly Somali taxi cab drivers that want to impose sharia on their fares due to “religious freedom.”

    The reason they have favored status is because Somalia has no real government. But once kids start going there to join Al Shabaab, they should send people back. It can’t be that unsafe right? Because they’re going to the homeland.
