Attention, Ugly Women: You Do Not
Have the Right to a Job as a Stripper

Posted on | February 14, 2010 | 40 Comments

You might not need to be told this. Obviously, being a stripper is one of those jobs — like NASCAR driver — where good looks are very important. Most ugly women understand this concept, and therefore seek careers as tenured university professors, a field where looks are inconsequential. However, vocational guidance counselors forgot to explain this to Rianne Theriault-Odom:

VAN NUYS – A Tarzana woman was found guilty Thursday of dousing an exotic dancer and single mother with gasoline and setting her on fire last year outside the Tarzana bikini bar Babes N’ Beer.
Rianne Theriault-Odom, 28, who had been rejected as a dancer at the club, faces mandatory life sentences for the guilty verdicts of one count each of aggravated mayhem and torture. The Los Angeles Superior Court jury acquitted her of a third count, attempted murder and the lesser charge of attempted voluntary manslaughter. . . .
During the trial, witnesses said that Theriault-Odom, who had been rejected for a job at Babes N’ Beer, had feuded with Busby and felt disrespected by her.
Theriault-Odom testified that “I felt offended – I felt she was trying to punk me. I had to stand up for myself. That’s the way it is on the streets.”

The victim, Roberta Dos Santos Busby is — or at least prior to this crime was — an attractive woman. Theriault-Odom is ugly. And therefore, when Theriault-Odom didn’t get a stripper job, she blamed Busby.

That may not make sense to you, but I’m sure Robert Reich or Paul Krugman could explain it. As every liberal knows, poor people are poor because rich people have all the money.

Theriault-Odom was just applying Liberal LogicTM to her own situation: Ugly women are ugly because beautiful women are monopolizing all the good looks.

There is legal precedent for Theriault-Odom’s belief. About 30 years ago, during the Carter administration, feminists noticed that airline flight attendants — who were called “stewardesses” back then — tended to be young, attractive and cheerful.

This was clearly unfair, so there was a federal civil-rights lawsuit and now all U.S. airline flight attendants are either ill-tempered, middle-aged, homely women or snarky unhelpful gay men.

However, during the Reagan years, Ed Meese put a stop to such shenanigans before the courts could apply that social-justice principle to the strip-club industry, which is why most strippers don’t look like Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg or Andrew Sullivan.

Yet.

God help us if the Rianne Theriault-Odoms of the world unite for a class-action lawsuit now. There can be no doubt which side of that issue Sonia Sotomayor would be on.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

I don’t think it was a federal lawsuit that eliminated young, attractive, cheerful stewardesses. It was unionization with its priority on seniority. Union-enforced seniority meant that the more expensive your seat on the plane, the more likely you’d be lumbered with a surly flight attendant who is just phoning it in until retirement. (The feds did have a role in this — American Airlines had a chance to break the flight attendants’ union in ’93 or thereabouts but Clinton intervened.)

My wife and I flew first class to Europe in the early ’90s. I expected that first class on a transatlantic flight would the cheeriest and prettiest flight attendants. Instead, it was clear that seniority could claim the most prized assignments. Our flight attendant looked like Selma Diamond and was as disagreeable as the bailiff the late actress played in Night Court. To illustrate her lack of customer-orientation: We were in the last row of non-smoking, but as no one was seated in the smoking section, we were hopeful that no one would light up. During Selma’s break time she sat in the row behind us and chain-smoked as we attempted to sleep.

I am trying to remember seeing a good-looking, front-line bureaucrat. I am still thinking on it. But if you want to see truly hideous wildebeest “strippers”, visit East Dubuque, IA. Thems the kind that should pay the patrons for pain and suffering. No more attractive than a DMV receptionist whose been sitting on her one-legged ass for the past 20 years.

Stewardesses not only used to be young, attractive, and cheerful, but they also were single. Being middle-aged and married pretty much disqualified a woman from that profession. There was no such thing as seniority because there were not any stewardesses who weren’t in it for the opportunities to see the world once they got out of school and maybe find a husband along the way. The federal government changed all that and transformed stewardessing into a life-long career.

Sounds like the money would have come rolling in!

If you’re too young or were too drugged-out in the ’60’s and ’70’s to remember what the stewardesses looked like, may I encourage you to take a trip [no, not that kind, man] down memory lane by going to Ran’s tribute here and mine here.

I think the quality of airline stewardesses is a good metric of quality of life in any country. In the early 70’s I visited the Soviet Union, and flew on Aeroflot, the Soviet state airline. The Aeroflot stewardesses were fat middle aged women who didn’t care about service. Sound familiar? On the other hand, Asian stewardesses today are attractive, cheerful single women that provide good service. They put Western stewardesses to shame. I’m moving to Asia as soon as I can. Goodbye to feminism!

I really believe looks played a major role. It was stated that the ugly lady was a regular at the club, and she no doubt developed jealousy against Roberta to the level of making a plan to destroy Roberta’s looks. How sad this lady is both outside and inside her soul UGLY AND ROTTEN.
