Politicians Increasingly Aware Of Reality

Fabius Maximus links Reuters on the Prime Minister of Greece having a Come to Beevis meeting regarding their situation, floating the question: “How soon until an American President says similar words?”
American Glob links NJN.net with Chris Christie having a state-level exercise in fiscal lucidity. Christie is worth hearing in full, as he pulls the plug on the NJ fantasy land.
GOP 2012 possibility Tim Pawlenty also did something sober in Minnesota, and his minority in the legislator upheld his veto.

the Minnesota House on Monday failed to override a veto of legislation that would have restored a state health care program for some of the state’s poorest and sickest residents.

To answer the question posed by Fabius, the election is in 33 months, and we’re less than 36 months to the possibility of responsible, sober, adult leadership in the Executive branch.

I was at a Chili’s in the Northeast last Friday night. Despite the snow, the place was packed. Lots of people still have money. The average person doesn’t see the problem yet; when they do, will they say, “OK, party’s over, it was nice while it lasted” or will they act like the Greeks? I’m guessing the second. The New Deal coalition is the governing force in America. It’s based on the promise that the money will always be coming in, and everybody who matters will be taken care of. America is just Chicago writ large. Conservatives can do little except prepare Americans for the coming collapse, at the risk of being shot as the messenger.

“How soon until an American President says similar words?”

It’s not the words I’m interested in hearing, It’s the ACTIONS I’m interested in. Pretend I’m from Missouri, and SHOW ME.
