Shootout at the RNC Corral

Posted on | April 5, 2010 | 19 Comments

First, a co-chairman of the Republican Regents resigned, and now the Republican National Committee’s chief of staff has resigned.

Maybe one too many rejected RNC solicitations? Just a guess.

Allahpundit has the necessary strategic insights. I’d offer my own insights, but I’m a bit too busy right now laughing over a silly post at Frum Forum by Chris Currey, who claims to have been “purged” by the GOP. Best line:

I voted for Clinton, twice. I thought he was the best Republican president since Ike. . . . I thought that Clinton practiced and articulated true Republican ideology in his fiscal discipline, job creation, smart tax cuts, and foreign policy better than anyone since Ike.

Right. And we all fondly remember how Ike loved getting blow jobs from interns in the Oval Office.

As seems de rigueur in such cases recently, Currey feels compelled to invoke the name of William F. Buckley. Of course, invoking his name is so much easier than actually reading William F. Buckley, who utterly loathed the Eisenhower presidency and the “Modern Republican” movement of that era.

When a man begins to suffer delusions of persecution, however, it’s best not to quarrel with him, so if Chris Currey is convinced he has been purged, we’ll all just nod politely, excuse ourselves and walk away, leaving him to mutter to himself.

Speaking of Charles Johnson . . .

Well, I, for one, am shocked. And stunned. Yes. Shocked, and Stunned!

The evil Republicans are evicting people who have been impersonating Democrats for 20 years? How non-inclusive!

Now if we can just lose McCain (John, not RSM!), Lindsey Graham, and the ladies from Maine……. If that all happens, I may be able to start claiming to be a Republican again. I declared my Independence from Party Designation back about when the Republicans nominated Bob Dole, and have never looked back yet.

If they clean out the dead wood, I may be able to find my way back.

“Right. And we all fondly remember how Ike loved getting blow jobs from interns in the Oval Office.”

See? Here is the problem in a nutshell and the reason why the conservatism and Republican Party that Mr. Currey views as being lost is truly lost. This man writes a heartfelt eulogy to a time that he believes the Republican Party actually stood on its principles. He even notes, when broken down to reality, that Clinton’s policies closely mimmicked those of traditional conservative values. Does Other McCain respond with anything of substance? No, just some lame nonsense about blowjobs. Of course, I suppose when you are part of a problem, you will never see a problem.

There IS a disease in the Republican Party and it is not borne people who think differently than you all. It is borne by the people who think exactly the same as you all and it will be the end of the party.

And Curry points out how he has come to support social security and medicare!!! Proof positive that he is nothing but a socialist demagogue. We need to purge parasites like Curry just like we need to purge the US government of totalitarian socialist welfare programs.

Which policies were those, precisely? The welfare reform he lifted wholesale from Newt? The smoke and mirrors debt reduction? The vilification of the opposition and the polarization of the electorate? The failure to arrest terrorist leaders when we had troops within yards of them? The global tours to slam his own country? Seriously, which policies?

    This is my favorite:

“You have to be blind to oppose (Medicare). You have to be blind to wish for the suffering of millions of Americans just because you believe in personal responsibility.”

There is just so much wrong with that statement it would render my comment TLDR if I tried to expound on it.

If we’re purging conservatives like him, we’re totally on the right track.

Eisenhower was ultimately loyal to Truman, who promoted him to his command in Europe… it was Ike’s un-conservative beligerent expansion of executive power that ultimately torpedoed Joe McCarthy and other conservatives in congress by suppressing ALL records and even PERSONNEL from testifying to Congress, even before closed intelligence committee hearings. All this via a blanket executive order defining ALL white house activity under the auspices of “national security” that makes congressional definitions of “interstate commerce” look exacting and restrained.

Make no mistake, war-hero or not, Ike was a New-Deal-er

In twists of irony, it was then V.P. Richard Nixon whose statements were sold as justification for this executive power grab in APPROVING editorials from the Washington Post and NYT. Not on principle of course, just salivating over the thought of hurting a true conservative like Senator McCarthy… the biggest threat to their vision of a commie-friendly USSA. No big surprise then when they both performed an unapologetic 180 on Nixon when HE became the biggest target.
