Two Weeks From Today …

Posted on | December 12, 2011 | 17 Comments

. . . on Dec. 26, the day after Christmas, I’m flying to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to begin my coverage of the campaign leading up to the Jan. 3 caucuses. I’ve already booked my flight ($275) to Cedar Rapids as well as my Jan. 5 flight from Des Moines to Boston ($205) to cover the New Hampshire primary campaign.

It’s been a month since my last road trip — to Spartanburg, S.C., to cover the Nov. 12 CBS debate — and what followed in the next three weeks was the final derailment of the Cain Train, leading up to his Dec. 3 decision to “suspend” his campaign.

So all the resting up I’d planned to do before the Iowa trip kind of went by the wayside for a while there. Now I’m starting to get the “itch” again, and there’s lots happening out on the campaign trail:

I’m trying to figure out who to contact for media credentials for the Trump debate, which should be fun.

Thanks to all the readers who have already contributed for the Iowa trip, and as for the rest of you — hit the freaking tip jar!

Is this a publicity stunt? No. Beck’s psychotic.

It’s DEFINITELY NOT hyperbole on his part.

Nope, not in any way, shape, or form. Glenn Beck would never ever EVAR say that he’d vote for Crazy Ron Paul over Newt just to emphasize how vehemently he’s against electing a progressive with an R after his name.

Because Beck has NOT ONCE broached the subject of progressivism being a cancer, nor has he suggested that exchanging one flavor of cancer for another doesn’t constitute an improvement.

So the only possible explanation is that Glenn is psycho.

Well, after Gingrich’s answer to the Romney attack suggesting he return the money he was paid by Fannie and Freddie, where he demanded to know if Romney would “return the millions he made bankrupting companies and laying off workers while with Bain . . .,” it is rather clear he does not support capitalism.

Most economics students could tell you why Bain’s restructurings actually created more wealth and led to more jobs, and how such companies perform a useful function in the economy.  But apparently Professor Gingrich disagrees.  He would prefer Bain and Romney not intervene, so that the companies could close their doors and ALL workers lose their jobs, because then Big Daddy Gummint could come on in and save the day, using Lean Six Sigma to be extra especially efficient in a consultant-oriented sort of way.

Why else would he deride Romney for being the White Knight who saved these companies?

But I have to ask:  what’s this about Romney’s position on gay marriage?  When did it ever change?  I thought it was one of the issues he had always been consistent upon – as a Mormon, he could no more support gay marriage than he could use alcohol, tobacco, or caffeine.

Thanks a lot Glenn: “Glenn Beck suggests Tea Party may be racist” http://www.thegrio.com/politics/glenn-beck-suggests-tea-party-may-be-racist.php

One would think the so called ‘Godfather of the intellectual right’ would not demonize the concept of creative destruction but here we are.

I have myself said I’d support Romney over Gingrich, if it came down to that choice — and have been criticized for saying so. But advocating a third-party campaign that would certainly lead to Obama’s re-election? Psycho.

And there’s this difference between me and Beck: I’m making my arguments in the written word, to a readership that has never exceeded 30,000 daily visitors, while he’s making his arguments on a nationally syndicated radio show. How many of Beck’s listeners buy into his hyperbole, if it is that?

While I have defended Beck against his critics in the past, his recent antics certainly lend credence to the claims of those critics who call him a “rodeo clown.” I perfectly understand his assertion that Gingrich and Obama are different flavors of progressivism, but to say that the only reason Tea Party voters support Gingrich is racism? C’mon: That’s ridiculously irresponsible.

While I am not a model of dispassionate discourse, Beck’s emotionalism makes him a dangerous political ally. It is difficult to distinguish between his principles and his mood.

Beck seems to be following the path of James Otis.

    Sad.

Sadly, you CAN make an argument that supporting Newt is a racist act… just not the one Beck made, and now the loon has immunized Gingrich against such claims.

Yes, loon.  Two words: Moses Stick.

I’d start by Googling up the applications process for “The Apprentice”… 😎

I am not into pop pschyology, but Beck seems to be going through a bit of a crisis.  He is panicing.  Someone slap him.

Newt is an extremely flawed person.  We all agree on that.  But he is by far better than Barack Obama.  I am frankly torn between who is better (or who is worse) when the choice is Romney and Newt.  But if personal character is the deciding factor, I am going with Romney without hesitation.
