Is Matt Drudge Not A Mitt Romney Fan?

Ouch:

Quite the triumph of the negative advertising will, Mitt’s 3% victory in Michigan. Alas for Romney,

Rick Santorum is the leading Republican presidential contender in Ohio, according to a new survey in the state.
The Quinnipiac University poll released Monday showed the former Pennsylvania senator with 36% support among likely Republican primary voters, followed by Mitt Romney at 29%, Newt Gingrich at 17% and Ron Paul at 11%.

Can Mitt’s squadrons of carpet bombers drop enough negative ordnance on Ohio to pull that out in time for Super Tuesday?

It remains to be seen. As Protein Wisdom noted yesterday,

Romney: “obviously, I want to make sure that we maintain the progressivity of the code”
Yes, obviously. Because that’s what “severely conservative” candidates do: maintain “progressivity” — or, to put a finer point on it, maintain one of the 10 planks in the Communist Manifesto, the graduated income tax.

I don’t know why Jeff G. has been unable to regain the happiness in slavery he seemed to be enjoying at Woodstock with the band. That tax code, which does not seem to have any point as far as funding a balanced federal budget goes, is really more of an iron rod by which We The People are punished, divided, and ruled.

Anything said by any candidate of any party has got to be given the litmus test of liberty. The ‘p’ word is anti-liberty at all points. I hope that Romney’s handlers are keeping an eye on this blog and noting that, in spite of whatever sort of Lefty dog-whistle is afforded by ‘progressivity’, usage of that term is an air-raid siren for conservatives that ol’ Willard is full of Mitt.

But maybe those handlers are paying attention:

What precisely am I deciding here? The contents of Romney’s core convictions? The presence of those convictions? Scroll down the page to the public figure Tea Party endorsements at the bottom: when this toss-off of a web site puts itself alongside some un-named “Sen. Demint Adviser”, and hasn’t even been updated to include Gov. Jan Brewer’s “OK, sure” endorsement of Mitt, you know it’s a joke. One is tempted to speculate that the Left is fronting this site more as a poke at Mitt’s lack of Tea Party support.

However, I don’t wish to sound all Bill Quick in my tepid attitude toward Romney. There really is too much at stake not to support Mitt, should his megatonnage of negative advertising result in the GOP nomination amidst the rubble. Mitt shall have bought the nomination fair and square, in that case. I also respect Mitt’s unwillingness to ‘set his hair on fire‘ while commanding the bombastic advertising campaign. I suppose that means Mitt won’t give us the Full Klinger, in his quest for the Resolute Desk. Fine. Some level of restraint is good in a Presidential candidate, insofar as his megalomania is concerned.

However, we all need to be relentless, hair aflame, and as serious as lung cancer about liberty. About turning the Information Age into something that means less government. About holding public figures accountable. About blowing the face off of the zombie of Progress, and, metaphorically, every sad little tool who preaches this false progressive gospel.

Let us soldier on and ensure that Mitt at least respects the actual Tea Parties, for all he probably hates them. ODERINT DUM METUANT.

“Mitt shall have bought the nomination fair and square,” — That resonates. It reminds me of that infamous precept held by that inglorious American; copper Croesus W.A. Clark of Montana who bribed state legislatures for appointment to the U.S. Senate. He said: “I never bought a man that wasn’t for sale.” How unfortunate, America voters have never learned Clark’s profound lesson.

Rick Santorum has got to tighten his game up.  I continue to believe he’s the best guy in the best position to knock both these progressives, Romney then Obama, off their lofty perches of power, but he has got to be more disciplined.

Throwing up, college arguments, flip-flopping on Dems in R primaries.  These self inflicted paper cuts things created a wound where there would have been none.  He’s got to embrace that as the A) social conservative B) anti-establishment Republican C) frontrunner, he is judged by a moving standard that only escalates in scrutiny.  I’m on his side, but if he can’t own that and be more than okay with it he’ll be done.

If you look at the numbers in Michigan, two things stand out in contrast to your assertions.

First, Romney’s negative ads didn’t move Santorum’s numbers.  Rick’s support last night was within the margin of error of his numbers in Michigan for the last few polls.  Romney was able to attract nearly all the undecided and late deciders, though.

His home-boy routine may have helped, but surely Santorum’s gaffe-a-minute performances since becoming the putative national frontrunner were the biggest part.  Keep telling yourself his stumbling debate and serial backtracking/explaining of his remarks has no effect.  They don’t move the True Believers, but those are not so many as you wish to believe.

Looking at exit polls, you omit the fact that Romney won the Tea Party vote in both Arizona and Michigan.  He also won it in Florida and Nevada and New Hampshire.

Looking at Ohio polls, you omit the fact that fully half of those who have expressed a preference in the recent ones indicate they could still change their minds.  That’s not the undecided voters, they are the “decided” ones.  If there is one thing we have learned in this cycle, it is that the electorate can and does shift faster than polls can detect.

Probably pissed off Allahpundit one too many times – something I, as proprietor of Daily Pundit (also not on Hot Gas’ blogroll) am not at all unfamiliar with.

Word now is that the “loser” Santorum may take more delegates out of Michigan than Romney will.  Please, defeat him like that some more.

No offense, but I think the idea that Santorum is anti-establishment is questionable at best.

What really shocked me is Romney winning the Catholic vote in Michigan. He didn’t win a majority but he did win something like 41 percent. After I got to thinking about it though, Catholics are mostly moderate to outright liberal, so it makes sense, especially in an open primary.

    I think it’s even-steven on the delegates.
But Santorum won in Hell, which is certainly where our handbasket heads.

Santorum was still riding his  wave as the last unrejected not-Romney when the poll was taken.  He wasn’t done shooting himself up, either. He  hadn’t yet  pulled his election-eve stunt of calling for pro-union “Reagan Democrats” to spoil the Republican primary because, not *at all* like himself,  Mitt opposed the auto bailout.  (yes, Santorum also opposed the bailout, but because he, unlike Romney, also opposed TARP, that makes his hypocrisy acceptable. But, because its an open primary anyway, the tactic doesn’t stink. Or so his defenders claim). Oh, and he hadn’t been crushed in Arizona or lost Michigan, either.  When Romney’s campaign takes advantage of this *brilliantly foresighted* move which isn’t desperate *in the least*,   and publicises it, that’s all negative and mean.  He  hadn’t won the coveted Michal Moore and Daily Kos endorsements as most likely to spoil the Republican race. Well, at least he did better among the crossover Democrats than among actual Republicans.

Tell it to the chaplain.  Nobody else besides the rabid Santorum fan base cares.

When you have to claim a moral victory, it ALWAYS means you lost.

    Drudge a Romney fan?

More like a wholly-owned subsidiary,  same as Coulter… and uncoincidentally he’s pumping her pro-Mittens tripe all the time now too

Except Santorum might get as many Michigan delegates as Romney, maybe more.

    >” However, I don’t wish to sound all Bill Quick in my tepid attitude toward Romney.”

You might want to consult a thesaurus, becuase “tepid” does not mean “to hate a persons guts with an irrational spittle-flecked fury”.
