O’Neill: “All Politics Is Local”

That is due to a lack of useful division between local, state, and national politics. Thus, Washington DC finds the national dialogue distracted by concerns about a particular a pair of crotches in Bozeman, Montana. Were they both male and seek some legal status that they can label ‘marriage’? Was that a heterosexual brace of crotches, the female of which conceived a third crotch, and now wishes to dispose of it? If the third crotch is, itself, female, does disposal count as a war on women? Why or why not? Sorry if I sound crotchety. Perhaps I should crochet in silence.

Where I’m driving on the crotch rocket is the point that the macro-level concerns of a federal government are consumed with micro-level, hormonal interests. Social Conservatives aren’t helping themselves by elevating these concerns to a federal level, and, credit where due, the loyal opposition is doing a bang-up job of capitalizing on the error. We give them ammunition, and they send it right back.

A stronger differentiation between the sacred and profane, the federal and the state, would be a better direction. The challenge is convincing people to get their minds off of crotches.

    I am a big proponent of federalism. On the war on drugs, on abortion, on marriage, on a host of issues. What is good for the Bay Gay State of Massachusetts is not necessarily good for Magnolia State of Mississippi.

    Actually the bigger challenge for society as a whole is to get people focused back on what the original function of all those crotches are. We have a slew of programs in place such as Social Security that requires a stable or growing population but birth rates have fallen off a cliff. In 2005 there were 3.3 workers for ever retiree. In 2010 it was 2.8. With the boomers retiring and the economy not adding jobs it is probably even lower today.

    Those who are focused on sex sans procreation might want to ask who exactly is going to be around to take care of them in their old age. When that ratio falls below 2 to 1.will those who have been sneered at as breeders be willing to continue to sacrifice to help the free riders who didn’t make the necessary deposits in the gene pool?

    As long as we give the political parties the ability to set the agenda, we go where they find the least resistance – appeasement. Go to My Platform – ad to the right.

    The socons loaded themselves onto a ship they did not captain. How many children of socialism graduating from college went to a school their parents paid for or supported? How many children of socialism have parents that can’t articulate a principle of our founding? Too many people have blamed the education system for teaching their children socialism. I don’t know about you, but we didn’t abdicate the responsibility of our daughter’s education to public schools just because she went to public schools. Too much of what the socon wants to use government for is to correct what they as parents failed to do themselves.

    If you oppose abortion, don’t have one. Teach your children to be responsible. 99.99% of gays were raised by straight parents. Either you support marriage, or you support “only the right kind of marriage”. If marriage as an institution is valuable and to be honored, then support all marriage, not just ‘the right kind’ that as often FAILS. And WHAT THE HELL does government have any business being involved in the choices?

    The implication that “gay marriage” is anything like real marriage is silly in the extreme. The only marriage that actually exists is between a man and a woman. The rest is just perversion which people like you pay honor to as though it is anything like the real thing.

    The big problem for the country is that the SoCons have the right of it. The basic problem of the country is the ammoral, parasitic nature of the electorate. You will not solve the country’s problems without a real Christian revival.among the people. Toqueville nailed the strength of this country when he wrote about what he saw on his tour through the US. He wanted to find out why the French revolution had such a baleful outcome, when the US revolution did not. I can save you a lot of good reading and give it to you in one word – Christianity.

    That one word is why the country is in such deep trouble. It has turned its back on the founders and the founding philosophy. It is also why the country will not be saved.

    Federalism: it’s not just a good idea, it’s in the Constitution (10th Amendment).
