Herman Cain: ‘We Have People on the Ground’ in Early Primary States

Posted on | December 27, 2010 | 25 Comments

My profile feature on Herman Cain is now up at The American Spectator, and the big takeaway is, he’s for real:

Getting from “dark horse” to serious contender is a task Cain has assigned to a campaign team headed by two Republican operatives from Wisconsin, Mark Block and Scott Toomey. . . .
In New Hampshire, John DiStaso of the Manchester Union Leader recently reported that “veteran GOP operative and former congressional staffer David Tille has become active” for Cain, whom he met during one of the candidate’s recent visits there. The Politico‘s Smith took notice of Iowa GOP operative Tim Albrecht’s prediction that Cain “is going to have some serious legs” in that state. Cain’s supporters have already begun organizing in early primary states. “We have people on the ground in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina and will soon have people on the ground in Nevada,” Cain told The American Spectator in an interview last week. “We are going to run a bottoms-up, outside-the-box campaign.… My strength at this point is the grassroots support that I have across this country.” . . .

Please read the whole thing. This morning I got an e-mail from Maurice Atkinson of DraftCain.org, who writes:

For months we’ve been developing a network of supporters and volunteers in the various states.  Currently we have over 2,000 who have solicited to be volunteers and 300 as organizers.  These are some sharp individuals from various walks of life (executives to retirees!).  We’ve focused on utilizing the various social networking tools, primarily Facebook.  We are currently developing leaders from within the pool of supporters.  Our focus is to develop relationships within the College/Young Republican circles so that Herman will have a solid support base at the various local and state conventions.

There’s also Citizens4Cain and, of course, Herman Cain’s Web site is here. You can contribute to his PAC. You can follow him on Twitter.

UPDATE: Herman’s Red State column today:

Don’t forget what President Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress did in 2010 – and tell everybody who will listen! And if they do not get outraged, then they are sleeping under a rock and they can’t get out.

Read the whole thing.

Stacy, you and I think alike on Cain. Keep up the chatter. Cain must run. He’s got it all, the complete package! He’d annihilate BO.

I love him. I would volunteer for him, but my state is pretty late in the game for the primary.

You said “dark horse”. How long before somebody accuses you of raaaaacism?

Off topic … but this is the top post right now, so I have to put it here.

Hop on over to Trig Truth Central, bud. The Daily Dish Award nominees are up. Guess who has NOT been nominated for a Malkin Award this year.

I must say I’m seriously disappointed in you, Stacy. I hit the tip jar and you can’t even produce a Malkin Nomination. I’m afraid this pro-rape shtick ain’t working, bud, you’re gonna have to go back to pro-genocide. That’s your 2011 resolution — a Malkin or Bust!!!

Lets see…it was Sec Rice, then colin powell, a change of pace with an Indian gov and even a fat white gov. Now another flash in the pan. We got to elect this guy as POTUS! NOW!!!
    Why?
How about we find some one who actually has EXPERIENCE? Or are we doing another Affirmative Action on the GOP side, you know, Black on Black?
Sure I like his speechs, so what? Where’s his credentials.
    People get real!

  • hrh

Sure, Cain’s real, but he has NO experience in public office.

Ran for office once, I believe, (GA Senate in 2004) and LOST.

    So.

    Private sector experience included.

The man has run for public office ONLY once.

    And lost.

Call me crazy, but I do think the Oval Office should NOT be the FIRST office in which you serve.

And, excuse me, but if Palin, who has served 10 years as a public office executive in town and state, and who has won 5 elections out of 7 in which she has run, is somehow not experienced enough and, of course, unelectable, then HOW IN THE WORLD is Cain electable to the top office in the land with only one lost election and no public service in his record?

    The mind boggles.

  • Joe

I want to see Herman Cain run. Can he do it? We will see, but he had the business background to succeed.

  • http://theundergroundconservative.wordpress.com The Underground Conservative

    I was thinking the same thing. 5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1 … Raaaaacist! Yes, there are 5 a’s in Raaaaacist!

  • http://theundergroundconservative.wordpress.com The Underground Conservative

    “Where’s his credentials?”

You mean running a real private sector business doesn’t count? We hear the same thing about Sarah Palin being an empty suit without any experience yet she, like Cain, has more real world experience than the Community Organizer in Chief.

Maybe it’s time to give the real world a chance and put the ruling political class of insiders on the sidelines for a change.

  • http://theundergroundconservative.wordpress.com The Underground Conservative

Sarah Palin is the only other potential candidate that could excite me. Mitt Romney? Gave us the blueprint for ObamaCare. FAIL. Mike Huckabee? Big government nanny stater. FAIL. Newt Gingrich? FAIL. Tim Pawlenty? Bought into global warming nonsense. FAIL. Mitch Daniels? Supports a European-style VAT. FAIL.

It’s about time we got people from outside the Ruling Class, which created the mess we’re in.

Your gushing over Herman Cain is starting to get embarrassing, and more than a little disappointing. He seems to be a good man but he has zero experience and no chance to win. All he is going to do is draw attention and funding away from legitimate conservative candidates His best role in this next election, quite possibly the most important one in our lifetimes, is to be a strong voice on the airwaves, supporting the true contenders and getting out the vote.

  • mike

I like Mr. Cain but he deserves better than to be fawned over by conservatives who are desperate to prove how not-racist they are. I’m not talking about you, Stacy, but that feeling is just oozing from the comments to your AmSpec piece. It’s unfortunate because Cain certainly deserves consideration on his merits, but right now it just seems like a reaction to Obama – facially similar to the disastrous elevation of Michael Steele.

UC you’re right, running a private company is so much more then running a STATE!
Dude, GOV Palin is the real thing…get over your PC liberal madness.

  • Suzanne912er

We are so blessed to have a man of integrity and character who has volumes of leadership experience, who has taken businesses in financial trouble and turned them around to become profitable in a short periods of time stepping up to the plate to help lead our country out of the mess it has been in. Herman Cain is the real deal… just read his articles, watch his speeches and you will see this man is sincere and will inspire American to believe in the Greatness of our country!

Hrh, hating on Cain again and propping up Palin again. I’ll just say this. You make such a big deal about experience and credentials. All these guys with all this so-called experience and these so-called credentials keep running UP the debt and keep giving AWAY our freedoms. I’m tired of that. Palin has experience. Fine. I won’t vote for her under any circumstance. (Frankly, I think she’s enjoying fame and money right now and she won’t be running anyway).

A CEO has to earn his revenues, so yes it does offer many more challenges to run a national company than a small state with a weak governorship and plenty of oil royalties so they don’t have to tax the citizenry.

Funny how the Palin fans act like she never has – immediately deriding and demeaning any other name mentioned for the GOP in 2012.

One of the difficulties she will face in a Presidential run will be escaping identification with her disturbing stalker-like fanboys, who are becoming ever more reminiscent of the Paulbots of old.

  • DanO

Please share an example of “Palin fans deriding and demeaning any other named mentioned” Mr. Adjoran.

An example where Palin supporters refer to the supporters of other candidates as “disturbing stalker-like fanboys” would also be compelling.

Oh yeah, “disturbing stalker-like fanboys” is the exactly the kind of talk that will unite us behind the eventual candidate if it is not Sarah Palin.

We are aware of the “diss the PalinBots” tactic, troll. Tell your handlers that it is time to try something else.

Nothing against Herman, if he is the nominee I’d gladly vote for him. I couldn’t say that about all of the other rumored candidates. In fact if Huckabee is the nominee of the Republican Party I won’t vote R for the first time since 1980. But I have to say that Herman Cain has as much chance of winning the election for President in 2012 as I do. That includes me running using my online screen name.
