SARAH PALIN IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Posted on | September 5, 2011 | 72 Comments

MANCHESTER, N.H.
UPDATE: Here’s a shot where you can see the crowd size (click to enlarge):

My rough eyeball estimate was about 800 people. There were lots of chants of “Run, Sarah, run!” BTW, this photo nearly got me the bum’s rush from security. I went up the stair backstage to get the photo and was then, um, asked by security to leave the backstage area. Hazards of the trade. But the point is — I got the photo.

UPDATE: Sarah Palin speaks (click to enlarge):

UPDATE: Backstage, Governor Palin autographs Ron Rivoli’s guitar:

UPDATE: Welcome, Conservatives for Palin readers and Students4Palin!

I’ll have more photos and videos later.

UPDATE: Da Tech Guy has more photos.

UPDATE: Here’s my interview with Mary Watson of Students4Palin:

At this point — about 3 p.m. ET — we’re working from the patio bar at Murphy’s. Also here are Dan Collins of the Conservatory and Jay Tea of Wizbang, who add their own commentary on today’s events.

UPDATE: Video interview with Jordan Porter and his father, Scott Porter, who drove from Maine to attend the Manchester rally:

PREVIOUSLY: We’re at Veterans Memorial Park, where a Tea Party Express rally featuring Sarah Palin is scheduled to get going at noon ET. Here are a few shots of faces in the crowd.

Jordan Porter, 19, and his father Scott Porter drove five hours from Machias, Maine, to attend the rally.

Mary Watson of Students4Palin.com is a law student at George Mason University and — in case you didn’t guess — a native of New Orleans.

Peter Southwick and Steve Brennan at the Organize4Palin tent. Steve says, “We are relentlessly gung-ho.”

Much, much more to come.

Poor Victoria upset because of her candidate’s “corrupt crony capitalism.” Too bad he got served with an upper cut and knocked for a loop on Saturday in Iowa. Now he has to run home to regroup and think what his next move should be. Sorry if running back home in 2008 and leaving the campaign trail didn’t work for McLame in 2008 it sure as hell isn’t going to work for good old boy Perry now either.

Your tone and attitude are all wrong for September, five months before Iowa. Many of us are still deciding which candidate(s) we favor. By all means, doggedly defend and promote your guy, but in doing so why alienate potential converts?

OK, Palinistas, please explain how to get over these things:
    She quit on Alaska;
    She has ~65% negatives among likely voters;
She has not left her Fox position as other candidates had to do very early.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a Palin fan since Aug ’08, but is she REALLY the right choice for 2012?

The Dem thugs took advantage of the AK law allowing Gov Palin to be sued and her having to pay out of her own pocket for her own defense….even if the suites were down right stupid, they still had to be answered, with Government time which means $$. Sarah is not about wasting money.
Watch The Undefeated ( Pay-Per-view available now) and you will see why she is what America needs….rigged polls be damned.  Or if you choose to stay ignorant about the real Sarah, that’s your choice.
Fox will suspend her soon enough or she will announce and will no longer be a fox contributor,,,,it’s quite simple really.

I get the “best thing for Alaska” argument.  I’m not completely convinced that it’s true, but then I didn’t follow it extensively.  I’ve really like Palin since 2008, but the resignation was definitely a black mark for her political career.

OTOH, I think she’s been dead on with her statements about being influential while out of office.

  29. Anonymous

steve – the film “The Undefeated” which is now on PPV and will be marketed through Walmart explains the resignation and Gov Palin will continue to tell Americans the truth about how her resignation came about – she is a “servant’ Leader

A Campaign plus the Twin Pillars of Truth (the film and the Palin Admin emails) will move the negatives – do not doubt it

Gov Palin has done none of the *conventional* things that potential POTUS candidates do ( fundraise, set up Campaign Aparatus in early States, kiss the ring of GOP County Chairs etc) therefore FOX have not terminated her contract like they did with Newt, Rick S and with the ultimatum they gave to Huck.

Therefore she continues to earn from FOX (and is frustrating them no end! YEAH!) and they peddle the Party Line “Palin is not running etc etc etc” and have all their Punditry talking her down.

Gov Palin has told Ailes she will let him know her decision before end of this month. FOX are worried enough to not broadcast these latest Tea Party Rallies though, whereas CNN can do so with no conflict of interest.

The bottom line is this: FOX KNOW she will run for POTUS, but they are betting that her unconventional approach will fail …

SO SAD, TOO BAD for you FOX

    HA!

    AMERICA RISING!

    1) Her career in AK state politics was over the moment McCain picked her for VP. There was no way she could do the job effectively after having become such a major national figure in the 2008 race. Dems did everything they could to stop her with time and money wasting ethics complaints. The resignation was a formality, and my opinion a promotion to the national stage. Watch “The Undefeated” for details (out on PPV now, in Walmart in October).

    2) Her favorables are higher than any other candidate among primary voters. The Alaskan accent, folksy style, and media attacks create a misleading impression of Palin. As she becomes better known throughout the course of a campaign those numbers will flip. Under McCain she was not freed up to focus on her record, etc. She has run five campaigns this way and won most of them. She goes out and talks to regular people instead of the political class, and in the end that wins out in reform-centered elections.

    3) She has said she will announce by the end of September. You only have to wait a few more weeks, possibly until Sept. 17 (Constitution Day). As far as FOX goes, Ailes and Co. do not want Palin to be the nominee. She is ratings gold for them. They are keeping her on because they want to send the message that she should be a cheerleader instead of a candidate. Of course she can’t quit because that would just feed into the “quitter” attacks. She will resign the day she announces.

    Matt,
What your take on MB running for president and getting paid by the tax payers, when she is supposed to be working in congress? a couple months after she got re-elected with Sarah’s help.
How about Perry, six months after getting re-elected with Sarah’s help, is getting paid as the Gov of TX while running for president?
I’d say they quit their jobs.

  37. Steve in TN

    1) I get the “reasoning” behind excusing her for quitting on Alaskans, I just don’t buy it.
    2) She has a LOT of work to do to overcome the negatives among *likely* voters.  The later she starts the less time she has to do it.
    3) Between Fox and Palin, one of the two is not being consistent.  As for Palin, her team needs to be very watchful that she is not concurrently running and reporting.  She seems to be running, and she is still reporting.

As Smitty has remarked, I want the best electable conservative to be the nominee.  I’m very worried that Palin is NOT it and that he candidacy will skew the process.

  38. Anonymous
    September 5th, 2011 @ 11:02 pm

What don’t you buy?  That the bogus ethics complaints were bankrupting her?  That those same ethics complaints cost Alaska over $2 million?  That those same ethics complaints and the myriad of FOIA’s had ground her administration to a halt?  You’re the very type who needs to spend $5.99 to watch The Undefeated, unless of course, you’re afraid of learning something.

    Watch when she announces.

    1) Did you watch The Undefeated?  No more commentary until you do.
    2) What poll are you referring to?  She just came through with a 73% to 27%  favorable against Perry in a recent NRO poll.    Of course, you heard Palin’s take on polls.  They are for strippers and cross country skiers.
    3)  Are you really fearful that she might be breaking some law and will go to jail?  I can’t really believe that this is a really serious deal killing concern for anyone.

What candidacy has she ever skewed up?  She took on the powerful establishment in Alaska and beat them like a drum, or a wet mule, whatever analogy floats your boat.     And she scared the willys out of the Obama until McCain called the campaign off for the TARP fiasco.   That’s why they have unsuccessfully tried to destroy her.

FYI.  The latest response immediately follows the one being responded to, so as new responses are received, the older ones are moved down the line.  And intermediate responses to the new responders get in line under those responses, moving everything further down.  There’s is no other way of handling it.  Every response can’t be immediately behind an original comment.

It may be frustrating, but it is what it is.

    1. Snark-snark (so much snark, you think it’s a member of the Thundercats)

    2. Say she isn’t running, blah-blah-blah (Charlie Brown Teacher)

    3. Once she declares, immediately switch to old memes or say that its’ all a publicity stunt to sell more books

    4. Say she won’t win a single primary

    5. Say she won’t win the nomination

    6. Say she’ll lose the general

    7. If she wins POTUS, just start screeming GEORGE BUSH !!!

If Palin wins the nomination, it shows she raised the money, got the organization skills (serious grass roots to win a GOP nod), and has a solid base of support.  With Obama tanking (and now employing union thug tactics) it now shows how desperate they are.

Yeh, leave Rubio alone.  As VP he would only be the tie breaking vote in the Senate, not someone as important as a coalition building Senator, or even the Majority Leader.  Who has more influence on legislation?   Biden or Reid?   Just saying.

It really doesn’t matter who Palin picks for VP, it will be awesome.  And it won’t be any of the current field of candidates.

Steve, one thing that you and a lot of other folks seemed to have missed was in her resignaton speech in July 09 when she stated that se “had delivered on every campaign promise I made”. She had completed her 4 year agenda in just over 2 years and left NOTHING undone for her constituants. Name another Gov. who has done that, especially having to fight her own party to do it!

  48. Anonymous
    September 6th, 2011 @ 12:39 am

    1) There is no “reasoning” behind excusing her. There are solid reasons why she resigned; there is no need for any excuses. As I said, watch the movie or read the book if you really want to understand the situation; if not, stop spewing misinformation without all the facts.

    2) The election is a year and half away. In today’s news cycle, things change very rapidly, especially when people are paying attention. Right now, most people are just getting back from their summer vacations and could care less about politics.

    3) She is not a candidate yet, she has not even said she is a candidate, and thus there is no need for FOX to let her go. Whether she runs or not, she is going to be doing speeches across the nation and supporting candidates in 2012, so you don’t need to fret your pretty little head about that.

As for electability, I’ll just share this. A lot of Palin supporters are PUMAs, former Democrats, and former Hillary supporters. What does that tell you?

  49. Matt Lewis
    September 6th, 2011 @ 12:49 am

I think Sarah did the right thing by helping them.  Honestly, I think she probably won’t run, and will hopefully help whoever comes out on top in the primary go all the way in the general.

For House members, if the campaign is affecting their ability to serve, they probably should resign.  I haven’t seen any indication of that so far.  Plus, I like Congress best when they’re not in session.

Perry may make for a more interesting case, as we saw today, where he skipped DeMint’s event and went to deal with the fires in Texas.  One could argue that doing his job has turned into national news, perhaps also an audition for the Presidency.  The Texas legislature is out of session currently, so he doesn’t have that to worry about.  I’m not familiar enough with Texas and the governor’s responsibilities to say much more.

Either way, neither one represents me, but I don’t have a big problem with them campaigning per se.  I’d respect a resignation for the purposes of campaigning, but not necessary.  MB hasn’t been around too long, but Perry has been governor forever, so cutting it a little short definitely wouldn’t have the same drawbacks as doing so before finishing a single term.

There is one guy I’d like to see quit his job, but they put a D next to his name on the TV, and he’s not one of those you mentioned.
