#OWS Protesters Attempt to Storm AFP Defending the American Dream Summit

Posted on | November 4, 2011 | 161 Comments

WASHINGTON, D.C.
“Occupy DC” protesters just attempted to force their way into the Washington Convention Center where the Americans for Prosperity Foundation is holding its Ronald Reagan tribute dinner for the “Defending the American Dream Summit.” I was in the middle of the scrum of smelly hippies when they stormed the doors and have multiple photos and video which I’m uploading now.

UPDATE: Smelly hippies chant “We are the 99%” while attempting to force their way into the building:

UPDATE II: A couple of AFP supporters who were attending the dinner and had stepped outside to watch the protesters marching, got caught in the mob when the protesters rushed the doors:

You can see Michelle Fields, a video producer for the Daily Caller, next to the policeman.

UPDATE III: Another brief video showing the chanting frenzied mob:

So you have the sights and sounds of “civil disobedience,” and are fortunately spared the smell.

UPDATE IV: Welcome, Instapundit readers! It’s stuff like this that makes you nostalgic for the Good Old Days of real police brutality.

UPDATE V: After the storm-the-doors stunt, the smelly hippies deployed to block adjacent street corners and chant stupid slogans:

A Republican consultant (who shall not be named) said: “I’ve never seen so many losers in my life.” Truly, it was LoserFest 2011.

It’s not that hard.  Over a period of years, the “smartest people in the room”, the 1 % mostly, have used their talents to figure out how to  (mostly legally) rob the middle class, and others, of  their savings, their pensions, their home equities, and Mutaul Fund values, as well as destroying the feeble protections that Unions used to give, and communities also.  It’s not that easy to sum this up on a homemade placard, especially while the Police are harassing you,   and the media is making Marie Antionettte jokes about you…

They should have just let in one protester, just to see how ‘protesty’ he would be all by himself.

The swindle that robbed the middle class, though, was not merely Wall Street greed.  It was our Progressive overlords political and cultural leaders selling us on the Biggest Lie of All:

All you need to do is show up for work or go to school; we have experts who have the answers to your housing needs, your health care needs, your financial needs … no need to plan for your future or actively manage your career, since we can do a better job than you can; just trust us to solve those problems FOR you.

And we bought into it … hook, line and sinker.

The facade of that Lie is now disintegrating before our eyes, as millions of ordinary Americans find that they have been left high and dry by the promises of these “experts” … the promises that they can work the same job for a lifetime in the same place, or turn WHATEVER they find “fulfilling” into a viable means of support, or “have it all” … while leaving the hard work of managing their own socio-economic destiny — from contingency planning to continuous personal improvement to firing their management and finding a new employer when called for — to government/unions/employers.

This ENCOURAGED dependence upon our “betters” at higher and higher levels, flies in the face of the self-reliance, personal initiative and “neighborly” interdependence that is the hallmark of the American experience.

Those who didn’t buy the Lie and instead kept control of their destiny, are the ones better off today … and more and more people that bought the Lie before, are seeing it now for the Lie it is.

They are coming to the understanding that, while experts are good for advice, it is best to leave the decision-making to the 300 million problem-solvers who are closest to the problems … not to a few Best and Brightest in DC to make our choices FOR us on the basis of the socio-economic morality of that select few.

Frankly, the OWS crowd is going after the wrong target … and all they will do, is trade one set of perceived overlords, for another — and far more real — set.

Its the corrupt politicians that set the policy and demorats seem to get most of that sweet, sweet Wallstreet money. Think a little deeper.

We know why the movment arose (lazy college kids wanting society to give them everything for free because they realize that their parents giving them everything for free is about to end), and what they are protesting (a society that doesn’t want to give them everything for free).

In the 60’s, the freaks had a consistent message…Vietnam.  They smelled the same, and their lifestyle was as odious, but the message got thru to the great middle (with the collusion of the Media).
This generation of freaks cannot articulate a message if their lives depended on it….at least nothing the middle wants to hear.  The middle hears the message of the TEA party.

That’s pretty much the situation across the country.  Loved by the Media and owned by the Progressives.

From the complaints the freaks have been able to articulate…it seems more like they are disappointed that their chosen lifestyle and chosen education is not allowing them entry to the group of “smartest people”.   The American Dream is still there, but they are surprised to find a worthless degree costing $150,000 isn’t an entry key.
They should be protesting the Government or the Universities.  They’d get some support from the great middle then.

As a 54 year old teacher who believes that the Koch brothers are trying to create the United States in their image, and who’s had too many students joining the armed forces because they could not afford college to later end in a casket or without limbs, I resent being called a smelly hippie. Shame on you for distorting the truth. You’re a lackey to the rich and powerful who have transformed our democracy into an oligarchy, where the middle class has disappeared and the rich get richer on the backs of people who work two jobs for minimum wages.
