Santorum’s South Carolina Surge: Announces More Endorsements, Campaign Schedule for Weekend

Lots of news today for the Rick Santorum campaign, including three endorsements by South Carolina GOP leaders, Stephen Brown, Bill Connor, and Patrick Haddon. Brown had previously endorsed Michele Bachmann, and Haddon switched his endorsement from Rick Perry to Santorum.

The Santorum campaign also announced endorsements by Maggie Gallagher of the National Organization for Marriage and by pro-life activist Abby Johnson. The campaign released Senator Santorum’s schedule for the three-day weekend, which includes a noon candidate forum with Mike Huckabee today in Charleston, a Sunday “Faith & Freedom” prayer breakfast in Myrtle Beach, and Monday night’s Fox News debate, also in Myrtle Beach:

Saturday, January 14:

    Santorum isn’t surging, Newt is. Newt’s in second place in ALL the polls, while Santorum is either tied with Paul for third place or slightly behind Paul depending on the polls. I think the RCP average for Santorum and Paul are they are both at sixteen percent. Newt is in the twenties, within striking distance of Romney also in the twenties.

    Now RSM aren’t you glad you have somebody like me to come along and correct your mistakes?

    All I know is whichever one gets the most votes (and hopefully wins) in South Carolina, I hope the other one drops out the very day after. Perry could prove he has a shred of decency by also dropping out. But by then he might not have a choice anyway.

    Oh please. Now you’re falling for this RNC shit too? If Romney can’t take the heat he needs to get the hell out. The minute an attack on the practices of one company becomes an attack on capitalism we’re all in trouble, because Democrats will play that game all day long, and win with it. Mitt and Bain are already the personifications of Wall Street.

    Maybe you can answer a question for me, since nobody else seems to want to have a go at it. And that is-

    Why in the hell should we trust Romney to slash regulations to the extent they need to be slashed when his company profited in large measure from the current regulatory regime? Some of those companies Romney “saved” were put in dire straits to begin with because of the regulations they all say they want to reform. As far as I know, that might have been a significant problem with all of those companies. But in any event, it damn sure didn’t help any of them.

    Now if I can figure this out, why can’t Santorum? For that matter, why doesn’t Newt point it out? Do you think maybe it should have at least crossed their minds? I doubt any of their sincerity when it comes to reducing government. Its just more of the same shit Republicans have been talking since Goldwater. Even Reagan didn’t reduce government, at least not to any significant extent. Why should we believe now would be any different?

    But at least we don’t have to anoint a man who along with his company benefited directly from this mess. If that means Santorum, I’m fine with that. And if that means Newt I’m also fine with that. But one of them needs to get the fuck off the stage after South Carolina.

    I don’t trust any of them, period, least of them Romney. 

    But someone like Newt should know better than to propagate the anti-capitalist meme. He should be working against it. And not sit on the couch with Nancy-pants. And not advocate a mandated health-insurance system. And…

    You get the drift.

    Of all the things to attack Romney on, that’s the worst thing he could have done.

    Well, my first choice candidate didn’t get in the race, and my second choice dropped out after Iowa, so really, I’m just looking for reasons to like somebody enough to give enough of a damn to support them. It’s not an easy task.

    But for all the reasons I said, I seriously question the willingness of Mitt Romney to reduce government and slash regulations.

    And I realize that, for all the reasons you said, Newt is a seriously flawed candidate.

    But let’s face it, the man does have a track record of accomplishments that holds out some promise.
