While We Were Out, Rush Limbaugh Apologized and Romney Won the Washington State GOP Caucuses

Posted on | March 4, 2012 | 62 Comments

The entire crew of the blog — me, Smitty and Wombat — left home yesterday evening to attend the “Remember Breitbart” event in D.C., and got back home in the wee a.m. hours. Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh issued this statement:

For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke. . . .
My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.

So “slut” joins the “n-word” on the List of Forbidden Terms, and we are now at a loss for any way to describe Meghan McCain.

In other important news developments, Mitt Romney scored a surprisingly easy win in Washington State’s Republican caucuses:

With 99% of the vote in, Romney had 38%. Texas Rep. Ron Paul had 25% and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum had 24%. They were trailed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 10%.

As Ed Morrissey points out, no delegates were awarded as a result of this vote. Most news accounts omit the non-binding nature of Saturday’s vote, which was for some reason very important news when Romney lost non-binding contests in three states on Feb. 7.

    Well, maybe slut was not exactly the appropriate term; he should have gone with “yammering bint”.  That would have been more succinct.

    Phony democrat rage works on advertisers evidently. The dems have successfully turned this whole episode from freedom of religion attack to an attack on freedom of speech, and apparently won both. This is a sad day.

    Tell me, how is Rush Limbaugh calling this woman a slut any different than Santorum calling married couple who use birth control “sexual libertines”?

    That’s the problem with conservatives that want to fight these ridiculous Culture Wars.  Here’s a little secret: the “right” bureaucrats aren’t going to save America’s soul.

    Not if we fight back. Rush can find more advertisers.  Carbonite has to find 20 million potential customers to buy their product.  I would encourage you and everyone else you know to either cancel or not renew any Carbonite subscriptions.

    Uniden, tell me how Bill Maher calling Sarah Palin a worst slur is someone justified as normal political discourse but what Rush did was beyond the pale?  And yeah, show me where Santorum said married couples not using birth control were sexual libertines?  I missed that too.

    Mo Dowd is really upset – it’s like Rush was demeaning her entire career path.  Fluke can now move on to her new position as head of the White House Office of Reproductive Enforcement.

    ~~~~~~
    I noted that AP, Yahoo, and WaPo all did mention there were no delegates at stake in Washington’s caucuses, the LAT didn’t mention delegates at all, and CNN claimed there were 40 delegates at stake, which is about par for the course on their accuracy.
    I apologize for my word choices in saying what I think of you.
     Which I hate that stupid company anyway, and their idiotic ads. Here you have three people looking at things to do with water. The Oriental chick watching the fish is probably thinking “that reminds me I need to find some extra strength Massengil”. The bitch in the car watching the kids is probably thinking “I wonder if I dropped my brats off here if anybody would notice”. Then you have the faggot on the bike, probably thinking “Yum these construction workers have some fine asses”. Then they all get together on GoToMeeting.com and talk about digging wells in Obama’s birthplace, Kenya.
    Just wondering, if a person had a time machine, would it be ethical to go back in time and kill a Democrat officeholder before he was elected and able to fuck up the country? As for which one-take your pick.
    Yeah, that one’s a hoot.  I wish they would publish a list of publicly traded companies that bought their software – it would be a good guide of companies to avoid buying.
    One of the big advantages of working with people in different locations is you waste so much less time in stupid meetings.  So let’s invent software to fix that . . . AAAAARRRGH!
       Santorum quote:
    ” One of the things I will talk about that no President has talked about before is I think the dangers of contraception in this country, the whole sexual libertine idea. Many in the Christian faith have said, “Well, that’s okay. Contraception’s okay.”
        It’s not okay because it’s a license to do things in the sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. They’re supposed to be within marriage, they are supposed to be for purposes that are, yes, conjugal, but also [inaudible], but also procreative. That’s the perfect way that a sexual union should happen. We take any part of that out, we diminish the act. And if you can take one part out that’s not for purposes of procreation, that’s not one of the reasons, then you diminish this very special bond between men and women, so why can’t you take other parts of that out? And all of a sudden, it becomes deconstructed to the point where it’s simply pleasure. And that’s certainly a part of it—and it’s an important part of it, don’t get me wrong—but there’s a lot of things we do for pleasure, and this is special, and it needs to be seen as special.
        Again, I know most Presidents don’t talk about those things, and maybe people don’t want us to talk about those things, but I think it’s important that you are who you are. I’m not running for preacher. I’m not running for pastor, but these are important public policy issues. These how profound impact on the health of our society. ”
    Since Santorum apologists aren’t very savvy, I’ll break it down for you in all caps what he’s saying:
    MARRIED PROTESTANTS THAT USE BIRTH CONTROL ARE SEXUAL LIBERTINES, AND I PLAN TO MAKE IT A CAMPAIGN ISSUE BECAUSE I’M A WEIRDO.
    Apology accepted.
    Do I need to break out the quote where Santorum calls mainline Protestants non-Christians?
  24. Garym
    March 4th, 2012 @ 3:49 pm
     The only ads that irritate me more than that one is the ones by Conoco Phillips and Shell. But its right down there with them. All the hell it is is just another video chat room. You could probably do the same thing with Skype. If the truth were known the real reason they jumped on this bandwagon is they figured out Rush’s listeners were too intelligent to fall for their shit anyway.
    No one is stopping you from calling people niggers or sluts.  You just can’t pretend to be a respectable old confederate wannabe while also using those words.  You are free to say whatever you want, shy of shouting fire in a crowded theater.  But you also have to be a big boy and face the public ridicule and possible financial consequences (capitalism loathes a racist, misogynist asshole, as private businesses do not want themselves associated with such vileness).
  27. Pathfinder's wife
    March 4th, 2012 @ 4:11 pm
    He didn’t call mainline Protestants non-Christians; he said much of mainline Protestantism (as in, the churches and what they profess) was deviating away from Christian doctrine.  In this he may have had a pretty good point.
    As for the comments concerning sexual libertinism, he was pointing to a trend in society that encourages sexuality for its own sake, divorced from any sort of committed relationship and yes procreation — sex for selfish kicks as it were.  He had a point about that too (and yes, it can happen within marriages…heh, may be one of the reasons for that institution’s breakdown imho).  I don’t see where he was singling out Protestants only with that remark.
  28. Garym
    March 4th, 2012 @ 4:15 pm
    Go fuck yourself scrunt. No-one on here uses the N word. As for slut, i’m probably replying to one right now.
  29. CaliforniaSucks
    March 4th, 2012 @ 4:30 pm
    That’s pure spin, and you know it.
    Santorum is clearly talking about married Protestants using birth control when he says :
    “Many in the Christian faith have said, “Well, that’s okay. Contraception’s okay.”
    He’s not talking about adultery or fornication here, he’s referring to Churches that don’t condemn contraceptives, which is 99% of Protestant churches.
    I could less if this was simply his own personal view, but as this quote demonstrates, he plans to incorporate it into his Presidential campaign.
    I AM ARAGORN!
    son of Arathorn and am called the Dúnadan (“Man of the West/Númenórean”, given by Arwen in Lothlórien and much used by Bilbo), Longshanks (given by Bill Ferny in Bree), Strider (by which he was known in Bree and the outlying areas), and Wingfoot (given by Éomer after discovering that Aragorn had travelled 45 leagues in four days in pursuit of Pippin, Merry, and their Uruk-hai captors).
  32. Bob Belvedere
    March 4th, 2012 @ 5:38 pm
    That is a very good term, but I prefer the original two.
    As I wrote on another post:
    The OED defines ‘slut’ as: a woman who has many casual sexual partners.
    It defines ‘whore’ as: a prostitute. a promiscuous woman.
    Mzzz. Fluke fits both definitions.
    So a slut and whore, she remains.
    I guess, Mr. McCain, being as how you think we should be able to refer to women we disagree with freely as sluts, you would have no objection to me calling Anne Coulter a slut. Or Sarah Palin a slut. Or Michelle Malkin a slut.
    Or your wife a slut. Or your daughter a slut. Or your mother  a slut. Nor would any of you posting here. Right?
    As opposed to the left which decides to put up a woman who goes to a very pricey school and goes on to complain about having to make the hard choice between eating and buying contraceptives?  Her “testimony” should be featured on a game show: Find the Logical Fallacies!
    In fact, this whole arguement of free birth control is an exercise in find the logical fallacy (and also: find the inherent slippery slope to totalitarian dystopia, but I digress).
