Sandra Fluke Argued for Mandatory Coverage for Sex-Change Surgery

Rather belatedly, we are becoming aware that this supposedly typical Georgetown coed is not very typical at all:

[B]irth control is not all that Ms. Fluke believes private health insurance must cover. She also, apparently, believes that it is discrimination deserving of legal action if “gender reassignment” surgeries are not covered by employer provided health insurance. She makes these views clear in an article she co-edited with Karen Hu in the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law.
The title of the article . . . is “Employment Discrimination Against LGBTQ Persons” and was published in the Journal’s 2011 Annual Review.

Remember, as Byron York previously reported, Fluke was rejected as a last-minute substitute witness at a Feb. 16 committee hearing because staffers for Chairman Issa were unable to discover Fluke’s claim to expertise relevant to the subject of the hearing. This law school journal article is the sort of thing that might have been discovered about Fluke’s background, had the Democrats who put Fluke forward as a witness done so with the usual 72-hour advance notice. Here’s one brief quote from the article:

Transgender persons wishing to undergo the gender reassignment process frequently face heterosexist employer health insurance policies that label the surgery as cosmetic or medically unnecessary and therefore uncovered.

Now, imagine Fluke trying to defend this language about “heterosexist” policies in a public hearing, with Republican members of the committee questioning her about whether religious institutions (or private businesses, or taxpayers) should also be required to foot the bill for “gender reassignment.”

Congratulations, America: You’ve been scammed!

UPDATE: Dan Collins at The Conservatory points out that the Obama administration is already providing illegal immigrants with “hormone treatments for transgendered people.”

Of course, this only makes sense. We wouldn’t want these foreign transpeople to go back to wherever they (illegally) came from and say that they’d been the victims of American “heterosexism,” would we? Then President Obama would have to issue another apology to the foreigners we had victimized.

    This, this is why we should never listen to those who tell us to stop with the “social issues”. Because they won’t.

    It would be a pre-emptive surrender to people like Sandra Fluke – a committed “social issues” liberal; who embedded herself at Georgetown for the specific issue of forcing employers to fund that with which they morally disagree.

    This story just keeps getting better and better. It’s like kicking over rocks to find all the slime. For an inconsequential sideshow we’re supposed to ignore, it sure is revealing a lot of consequential concepts.

    Perhaps lemonade will be coming from the lemon. I think this may well become the Wellstone Memorial Moment of 2012.

    and government as well.  Governments, at all levels, are free to live
    beyond their means using borrowed or counterfeit money, then either
    default or pass the damages on to taxpayers, property owners, or
    USDollar holders.  The savings and loan debacle of the 1980s and the
    more recent Wall Street/derivatives contagion were not isolated
    incidents but rather examples of the delusional character of American
    thought (Phillip Johnson).

    Had Rush not responded, Fluke would’ve been able to maintain her persona as Innocent Law Student and no one beyond a few rightish bloggers would have investigated her background.

    Here in lies the problem, the left would have figured this out 15 min after a similar attack from the other side. Are we that underfunded or that unfocused that it takes 3 or 4 days to uncover this. We have to focus, it’s not just about the issues and a “better” intellectual argument, it’s about attacking with absolute vigor, or as I say to my team (I actually work for a living), it’s about a commitment to “Ruthless Execution”. Trust me, this is how the other side thinks.

    Looks like your buddy Dan Reihl isnt the only blogger that Mark Levin is paying attention too.  At 2hrs 50 min (you can listen to the free replay on Levin’s site) he mentions Stacy McCain at least 4 times!

    (ELB is right, although you may not have seating on the dias, content is at least one attribute to which you can lay claim.  You and I both are in the same spot more or less.  I have been in the research biz for over 10 years, with 2 front page covers on the leading journal for the ATS but have never been asked to moderate or sit on the dias.  One day maybe?)
