Hope and Change Go Gay
Posted on | May 9, 2012 | 56 Comments
President Obama today announced that he now supports same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.
Of course, as Ace of Spades pointed out earlier, Obama had stated his support for gay marriage as early as 1996:
Answering a questionnaire in 1996, he wrote: “I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.”
With the slavish assistance of the media, Obama has been conveniently permitted to pretend to be “moderate” on an issue where his actual position has always been radical.
UPDATE: Again, Ace of Spades:
Meanwhile, George Stephanopolous and Dianne Sawyer are greeting this news with giddy joy, as if they’re drunk.
In Dianne’s case, of course, that’s not an “as if” thing at all.
What is pathetic, as I say, is that everybody knows Obama could not have won even the Iowa caucus in 2008 if he had been campaigning as openly pro-gay-marriage — that is to say, clearly to the left of Hillary Clinton on this issue.
In order to enhance his “viability,” the media bit their tongues and looked the other way while Obama engaged in a flimflam charade of moderation. He would have carried on that dishonest scam as long as necessary to win the general election, except that his big-money gay donors threatened to cut him off. And what his media idolators now will celebrate as another “gutsy call” never would have happened otherwise!
UPDATE II: Video:
Bonus upside? Mitt Romney will now have to campaign against gay marriage. Not that he wants to, but now he must. The Newtonian principle of two-party politics requires it.
UPDATE III: Headline at Hot Air:
Breaking: Noted gay-marriage supporter
finally drops cynical charade
UPDATE IV: Donald Douglas at American Power:
If Mitt Romney really wants to show he’s conservative, the president couldn’t have handed him a better opportunity.
RNC chairman Reince Priebus says the GOP position is clear.

Good for him. It’s a shame that being pro-equality is seen as such a radical position.

Obama was for gay marriage, before he was against gay marriage, but now he is for gay marriage again…but let the states decide it.
Okay, how about letting the states decide it?
May 9th, 2012 @ 7:08 pm
So in order to get the gays’ big money donations, Obama is willing to throw away all the blue-collar votes in swing states.
There’s a winning strategy… not.
It’s almost as if — knowing he hasn’t a snowball’s chance of actually winning the general — he’s trying to snarfle up as much cash as he can, to put into his pockets once the election is over. And lost…

get back to us when the gheys can produce a child on their own
May 9th, 2012 @ 7:38 pm
Why? What does that have to do with anything?
May 9th, 2012 @ 7:52 pm
So Obama’s basing his campaign on beating the convict vote and nailing the gay vote.
May 9th, 2012 @ 7:57 pm
Yeah, maybe one of these days Obambi might even go that extra mile and step out of that closet. Hell, you never know Mr. The Tramp, send Obambi enough money and he might not only do that, he might celebrate by doing a line of coke with you and other, you know, stuff.
Just be careful crossing the street afterwards.

“Equality” = 100 million dead in the 20th century.
Just sayin’ …

“nailing the gay vote.” now that’s funny I don’t care who you are.

Gay men have just as much right to marry women as normal men where’s the inequality?

Good luck with the Senior Citizen vote, and unlike college kids, they actually show up at the polls instead of just talking about it.

Willard didn’t show any backbone on this issue when he was Governor, why should we expect him to do so now?

This is Romney’s big break! Damn….I was pretty much hoping that he would lose…

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Has this lifted Kal Penn’s hopes?

Since the wise ones in the media and government support same-sex marriage, then those of us clinging to our guns, religion, and traditional marriage are now the extremists.

We may as well just highlight this issue and fight it out with the Libs for Election 2012. Then we’ll all know the true spiritual condition of the U.S. population. Prepare for disappointment. Then prepare for…..
Today, someone said this to me: “I’m not voting anymore. It’s like we’re a passenger on the Titanic being asked to vote for a new captain after we’ve hit the iceberg.” I had to concur.

So what the hell am I going to do with all this belladonna?
May 9th, 2012 @ 10:38 pm
Going to be interesting to see how this plays with all the black Christians. Apparently they turned out heavily in support of the NC amendment and Prop 8 in California; will they be as enthusiastic about Obama now that he’s gone back to his original position on this?
May 9th, 2012 @ 10:57 pm
Look!! A squirrel!!

Thanks for removing my completely inoffensive comment replies. Nice to know you don’t care about hearing a rational differing opinion, but rather just want other people to jack off your opinion. Careful though – some of them are dudes. That’s illegal now.
May 10th, 2012 @ 12:40 am
Something requiring a poor innocent girbil perhaps?
May 10th, 2012 @ 12:42 am
So I take it you never heard about Obama’s gay lover who “mysteeeeeriously” died.
May 10th, 2012 @ 12:47 am
Your comments weren’t so much offensive as they were the usual boring and predictable leftie talking points. Go peddle that swill at MSNBC where the leftie vultures make a living puking that pablum into the mouths of their infantilized leftie audience. We’ve heard it all here and it just leaves us cold. Try some originality for once. Send a picture of yourself shitting on a cop car, or grabbing your boyfriend’s nipple chain at the Folsom Street Fair, something that at least won’t put us to fucking sleep.

Or why his BFF Tony was more or less banned from the White House. Or the full story of Frank Marshall Davis, his “mentor” at Columbia.
May 10th, 2012 @ 1:02 am
It wasn’t just for the gay money, although that was probably a major factor since, despite all the “$billion” bravado last year, Obama is running behind Dubya’s 2004 fundraising pace so far, and is burning money at a record pace even without primary opposition (except in WV, where his opponent only had a couple packs of cigarettes and a shiv made from a toothbrush to spend on the campaign).
He also hopes to inspire the younger voters, who are unlikely to vote at the record levels of 2008 and among who Romney is running much better than McCain did.
May 10th, 2012 @ 1:06 am
I don’t see any upside other than getting the gay money. Is it really that much money, is his fundraising doing that badly? Why the day after the NC vote? Black churches went big for Amendment one, don’t know if this really hurts him in that community as even they had to know his true stand on gay marriage, it certainly won’t help him with the bubba vote.
#OccupyResoluteDesk also had a primary fight on the NC ballot, there were no other contenders but “no preference” still got twenty percent to Obamsky’s 79.1 % of democratic ballots. West Virginia Dems went 60% for OccupyResoluteDesk and 40% for a convict not a good day for the left.
May 10th, 2012 @ 1:06 am
I never knew that girbil was gay.
May 10th, 2012 @ 1:11 am
That’s got to be the funniest and coolest story of the year so far. Fucking guy in federal prison in Texas, and he gets 41 percent of the vote in West Virginia, and actually won ten counties.
Oh, and he gets to send probably a couple of delegates to the Democrat Convention.
May 10th, 2012 @ 1:19 am
My guess is the Hollywood money isn’t pouring in as it was 4 years ago. Half of that community is gay and all of them will take it up the ass to get ahead.
May 10th, 2012 @ 1:36 am
I don’t think he actually put up any delegates, shame really, convicts current and former are an important demographic and a major pillar of the democratic party they should be represented at the convention.

That guy would have probably been shocked as hell if he had just managed to pull a whole one percent of the vote. But 41%? Just imagine if a serious candidate had actually challenged Obama in the primaries. He might have actually lost. This really looks bad for him. It’s going to be interesting to see how he, Jay Carney, and others try to spin it.

in spite of his many, many, many, many, many, many, many mistakes…barack has it right on this one. there is no valid reason, other than bias, to disallow equal protection under the law to millions of tax-paying american citizens because of their natural orientation.

From Katrina Trinko over at NRO: The Washington Post reported earlier this week that one out of six of Obama’s bundlers are gay. Clearly, the campaign is hoping that Obama’s decision to back gay marriage will reap in some new donations.
And let us not forget the non-gay Hollywood types who have been, until now, holding back their monies.

“Bonus upside? Mitt Romney will now have to campaign against gay marriage. Not that he wants to, but now he must.”
No he doesn’t.
“Watch to the last seconds of the clip and you’ll hear Romney say, almost offhandedly, that gay marriage and marijuana are state issues. Is that really his official position? Didn’t he sign a pledge supporting a Federal Marriage Amendment?”
If you check that pledge, his signature will be gone, because an Etch-A-Sketch won’t hold ink.
Romney 2012: As dishonest as Barack, but without the icky melanin!

A lot of the college kids aren’t that cool with it either…it’s just hard to get good polling out of them due to expected answer vs. true answer.
Catch them talking in an unguarded moment, between friends though — many are actually much less tolerant than their parents; they just don’t say anything (these are children who have grown up knowing the penalties for saying “bad thoughts”).
