Al Gore and the Big Climate Lie

Posted on | January 7, 2014 | 49 Comments

Sometimes my hatred of lying liberals inspires me with a vitriolic rage that is very difficult to restrain. They lie with such arrogant impunity because liberal dominance of the intelligentsia means they can always count on their lies being applauded. And indeed, there are vast segments of the culture — academia, journalism, entertainment — so overwhelmingly liberal as to constitute a cocoon.

Within these cocoons where only liberal ideas are expressed, categories of “truth” and “error,” “right” and “wrong,” “fact” and “myth” are distorted beyond recognition, creating an alternative reality unrecognizable to those outside the cocoon.

So it is with the alleged “science” of anthropogenic global warming (AGW), also known as “climate change.” The means by which a scientific consensus was created in favor of AGW theory involved (a) advanced methods of propaganda, and (b) lots of money.

Last month, Al Gore tweeted out an article from The Daily Climate that bore this description:

Digging into the underpinnings of the climate denial movement, a Drexel University study finds a large slice of donations funneled through pass-through organizations that conceal the original funder.
Koch Industries, ExxonMobil disappear from traceable public databases after 2007.

Knowing what I know about the AGW movement’s sources of funding, this imputation that critics enjoy lavish secret funding — “climate denial” researchers are all rolling in Koch bucks, we are led to believe — absolutely enraged me. But what can I do?

If you’ll take a second look, you’ll see that The Daily Climate is a publication of Environment Health Sciences:

The Daily Climate is published every morning (US East Coast time) by Environmental Health Sciences, a global nonprofit media company with headquarters in Charlottesville, Va.

Oh, “a global nonprofit media company”? What can we learn about Environmental Health Sciences?

Today, EHS’s budget is at $2 million — largely supported by major foundation grants — and Environmental Health News and The Daily Climate see 25 million page views per year. A team of 36 people work for its two publications . . .

Yes, “largely supported by major foundation grants,” EHS gets $2 million a year to run a couple of Web sites with a staff of 36.

So an organization that gets funding from major tax-exempt foundations publicizes a study by Drexel University (annual tuition $43,135) suggesting that critics of the AGW “scientific consensus” are unfairly enriching themselves. Isn’t that special?

Meanwhile, in the real world:

About 500 passengers aboard three Amtrak trains were stranded overnight in a remote part of northern Illinois because of blowing and drifting snow, Amtrak officials said today.

The nation is gripped by one of the most severe cold-weather systems in recorded history — “It’s So Cold in the Midwest that Antifreeze Could Freeze” — but somehow, this evidence does not affect “major foundation grants” for the 36 lying liberal propagandists employed at Environmental Health Sciences.

I’d love to laugh at that, but yesterday the dog escaped and, while chasing him down the road, I slipped on the ice, fell hard on my right side and injured my ribs so severely that it hurts to laugh — or sneeze or cough, for that matter. And I know damned well that I’m not getting any “major foundation grants,” so please hit the tip jar.

    Get well.

The big “Climate Lie” is that it is about climate at all. It’s about power and concocting any plausible story to allow the rubes to hand over their God given rights of self-determination and autonomy to a group of self-selected elites. The fact that this particular story is incapable of refutation is evidence that the same self-selected elites have completely destroyed the educational system in this country.

AGW is the marriage of con men in the mold of Bernie Madoff and religious followers of Gaia and the US Treasury. Gore ventures out from his Tennessee Verseilles whenever he needs cash to keep the hundreds of lights on.

I’ll believe it’s an actual issue that has human root causes when people who say it’s an issue with human root causes act like it.

Thing is, the AGW supporters have actual, published theories and computer models, which have given us a range of results that we should see . . . and should have already seen.

Trouble is, as the observed data came back, it fell outside of the projections of the models, fell outside on the low side. It is still possible that the AGW theories are correct, just not within the range of intensity projected, but normal scientific procedure is to propose an hypothesis, set up an experiment to prove the hypothesis, perform the experiment, and then assess the validity of the hypothesis based on the data returned from the experiment.

In the AGW theories, however, the “experiment” was already set up for them: what would the climate do? From the data returned, the hypothesis was not proved.

But, it wasn’t disproved, either; what was proved was that the projections were incorrect. It may be that someone can come up with a model which both confirms AGW and matches observed data, but that hasn’t happened yet. My guess is that it hasn’t happened, because such a model, having to take into account that the observed data are lower than what was originally expected, might indicate such minor change in temperature as to be meaningless, and almost certainly would not justify the Chicken Little atmosphere — pun intended — generated by the warmists, and that would invalidate their policy proposals.

And their policy proposals were all that this was ever about. It has been an attack upon wealth and capitalism, by people who happen to have wealth, but still hate the capitalism which generated it. (I’d guess that there is a psychological pathology which would explain that, but I don’t know what it is.)

Are liberals actually lying or do they really believe this shit?

I am willing to suggest that those who enrich themselves on the back of a left wing cause such as ‘global warming’ – Al Gore, David Suzuki et al – are liars and manipulators par excellence.

There are many, however, who truly believe this nonsense and will proselytize the faith accordingly.

The idea is to gather data in an attempt to falsify the hypothesis. It takes a great deal of data to raise an hypothesis to the level of a theory. AGW has never actually been tested to that point. Not even close.

What Al Gore says may very well be true: “Climate deniers are increasingly funded by hundreds of millions in “dark money.” Hidden from public scrutiny.”

Al Gore was funded by hundreds of millions from the sale of Current TV, and he is in denial about what is actually going on in the climate.

We also need to keep in mind that the story of man-made global-warming is a story of science fiction.

  20. Adjoran

The war on fossil fuels has nothing to do with the environment or the climate. The “cooling” scare in the ’70s was attributed to the same “greenhouse gases” and the solution offered was the same: have government control fossil fuels.

The villain is always the same and the solution is always the same, just plug in your problem to the system and out comes the prescription: more government control over energy.

Control over energy use and cost is effective control over economic freedom. It does us no good to be free to move from Maryland to Provo if we can’t afford the gas to go, or it is unavailable.

Of course the planet has warmed since 1800, but the difference is so slight as to be within normal variations. The fact is that the dire predictions are all just fabricated, no actual data backs them up. They are intended to scare the public into surrendering a bit more control over their lives and a lot more money indirectly by artificially raising the cost of energy.

Exactly. Remember when Ron Paul was asked what he thought the price of gas should be and he said a dime? He based that answer on the price of Silver at the time…a Silver Dime was worth a little over $3.00, the average price of gas.

Basically a dig at the Fed. Paul is a proponent of going back to the Gold Standard.

How is the leap made from “AGW” being real to its being a looming crisis for which things like “carbon taxes” are the only the solution?

I wouldn’t concede the debate to the Left by assuming the purported problem and its proposed remedy go hand-in-hand…

I would think that if global warming/climate change is real and is caused by humanity and is going to be bad for us, and we could prevent it by the force of government, we should rebel against any attempt to do so! I’d rather die than give the grimy hands of government that much power!

Perhaps this “problem” (if it is real and everything that it is claimed to be) will just take care of itself in the long run anyway…

The long-term plus to the anger of people at being scammed by AGW conmen is that folks have re-learned the Scientific Method and are applying it – exposing a lot of the so-called science out there has been faked for one reason or another – but still faked. How many laws and regulations are based on such faked science, how many social conundrums are based outright fabrications by scientists like Masters and Johnson?
The AGW-cons may have made life better in the future after all by forcing people to return to the basics of skepticism.

He’s trying to sneak Peter Gleick’s forgeries back into circulation.

Because that’s the reality, they can’t back up their claims of some huge skeptical conspiracy without engaging in criminal forgery.

Meanwhile, AGW is funded by huge pots of taxpayer and foundation money without the slightest taint – hypocrisy.

Yeah, but there have also been some really good attempts to find functions that fit the expected results.

They all look like the mathematic equivalent of Rube Golberg machines.

The really funny thing was a post by Willis Eisenbach at Watts’ site, where he effectively showed that the models always predict the same thing no matter what you throw at them (all my words, not his, but that’s the takeaway AFAIC).

Ribs. I think we’ll have that for dinner next week.

I’ve taken a few of those falls. They don’t get better with age.

The good news is that you’re usually bundled up more in winter, so I’m guessing that helped. A little.

    “Non believer”

    “Heretic”

All the same really. Extremely dangerous words to use in a political context.

Let them say what they want. But using government to force those ideas down everyone’s throat?

    Not today.

Thanks man. The cruel irony is that my Army son paid money for this boxer “puppy” — a gigantic ferocious beast — mere weeks before he enlisted, so it’s not even actually our dog.

If it were up to me, we would have no pets at all, yet I’m the one at home with this beast because my wife (bless her heart) has a soft spot, so we have two dogs, a cat and a bunny rabbit.
