The Convention Center here is the site of the Chris McDaniel victory party. Of course, election night events are always called a “victory party” in advance, even though you don’t know who will win the election until the votes are counted. Polls close at 7 p.m. CDT (8 Eastern) and we expect the vote to be extremely close, so it could be a long, long night. Here is some expert commentary:

Of course, I’m much better-looking in person. I’ll be updating regularly tonight as the vote totals come in. Stay tuned.

UPDATE 7:15 p.m. CDT: Polls have been closed for 15 minutes and, with 0% of precincts reporting, it’s McDaniel 0%, Cochran 0%.

UPDATE 8 p.m. CDT: Country singer Eric Welford is entertaining the crowd here. Meanwhile, with 3.4% of precincts reporting, it’s Cochran 52%, McDaniel 47%.

I’m sitting next to The Atlantic‘s Molly Ball, who’s got a nice article about the pathetic fate of Thad Cochran.

What are you talking about? Did you not see what happened in Texas? And a runoff is almost as good as an outright win. Cochran will have an uphill battle with a runoff. I don’t think the Tea Party has lost a single run off yet.

Seriously, once Cochran realized this thing was going to a runoff…he didn’t come out and address his supporters. He just left. What does that tell you?

Barely? The deck is overwhelmingly stacked against us in money, electoral oversight, party leadership, earned media, biased media, and every institution connected to electoral politics in any way.

ANY win is major. It’s the slung stone thru the eye at fifty paces.

barack keeps cuttin’ down their ration of coal. They have to put a bunch of womyn’s studies majors on a treadmill and hang free birth control in front of them and a picture of Ralph Reed behind them to power the return counting machines.

Coincidentally, this is also going to be a new reality TV show on TheBlaze.

I forgot about that Ace-ism. 2010 was full of pudding moments. Time to go long on Jello.

Related public service announcement: don’t go to Urban Dictionary for “pudding cup” definitions.

As long as you’re no longer tied to a D.C. employer, you and your wife might consider moving back down to Georgia. After 16 years around the capital, your accent is losing its edge. With the loss of the drawl, the residual nasal quality of your voice makes it sound like you grew up in a small town outside of Syracuse.
