Virginia GOP Pulls a Fast One

Posted on | June 9, 2014 | 38 Comments

A Democrat member of the Virginia state Senate has announced he will resign, a move that will likely prevent newly elected Democrat Gov. Terry McAuliffe from imposing ObamaCare on the state — and this appears to have been arranged by Virginia Republicans in a thoroughly Machiavellian maneuver that will give GOP control of the state Senate.

Hopefully they are smarter than the morons in Congress and make good use of the opportunity. I’m not hopeful, however.

  • CrustyB

What the GOP did was Machiavellian, calculated and cold.

    I approve.

  • Dana

I would like to think that the Republicans were as clever as this!

  • Earl Scruggs

Didn’t the Dems do this to a Republican not all that long ago to make that body evenly split?

Now they are squealing like stuck pigs.

And they are saying Ed Gillespie was a lobbyist so you can’t trust him. Says the party of Terry McAullife.

Good. Thanks to Gov. Empty Suit (DFL-Messinger) we have a highly dysfunctional exchange inplace up here.

  • CrustyB

Good for me but not thee.

I suspect the GOP appealed to Puckett’s self-interest, IE, continued employment. This move doesn’t happen without Puckett realizing on which side his bread is buttered.

The RNC will punish them severely for offending a Democrat.

It was a pretty shady maneuver, but you can’t play nice with Democrats.

  • bobbymike34

Yes ’bout frigging time. Democrats need to be absolutely defeated no more compromise or ‘reach across the aisle’ BS.
Any direction left no matter how incremental is a win for the left and a loss for freedom.

  • Cube

I don’t know about that. The name “Jumpin’ Jim” Jeffords rings a bell for some reason. If the ‘rats insist on writing the playbook such that cheating is OK, they can’t complain when the other party uses it on them.

  • Steve Skubinna

It’s long past time to play hardball. Stop pretending we are facing an honorable opponent.

  • rustypaladin

Wait, you’re telling me some Republicans did something effective? I’m really having a hard time believing this.

  • Wombat_socho

Pretty much. Puckett knew he was probably going down to defeat this year since his district went heavily for Romney in 2012 and somewhat less so for Stacy’s Crazy Cousin John in ’08.

  • Wombat_socho

    Strange but true!

  • richard mcenroe

And to somebody besides another Republican? What is wrong with them?

  • BruceC

I think the phrase is “reach around”

  • bobbymike34

To paraphrase Gunnery Sergeant Hartman – Democrat are the type of people who f*** a Republican in the a** and not even have the G** D*** common courtesy of giving a reach around.

  • Joseph Fein

And this is how we win.

Let the D’s bitch and moan. There is precedent if the media or if there is D opposition (the schadenfreude on Liberal Blogs is so tasty), say this sentence:

Where were you when Torricelli (Corrupt-NJ) pulled out in 02?

  • Moneyrunner

    By any means necessary.
I didn’t know they had it in them.
