Homeward! (The Great Tip-Jar Rattle)

CLEVELAND
Well, my five-day stay in this fair city has come to an end, and now it’s time for me to return home. My train ticket on the Capitol Limited is paid for, but there’s cab fare to the station, and I’d like to grab a bite to eat before I go. My wife wanted me to bring home souvenirs for the kids, and I bought a couple of T-shirts before realizing how depleted Ye Old Bank Account had become — a typical miscalculation.

Was there any Big Story here in Cleveland? Was the Republican National Convention anything more than a pre-scripted TV show? Is there any Final Wisdom to be found in all this?

On the bright side, terrorists didn’t blow us all to smithereens, thanks to the massive police presence in Cleveland. The biggest disruption of the whole week was Ted Cruz’s speech Wednesday, and also, Communist protesters burning the American flag, but what would a Republican convention be without a few Commies burning a flag? It’s predictable, as predictable as the blatant bias of the media.

Also predictable: Me rattling the tip jar. Anything readers can give — $5 or $10 or $20 — would be appreciated because, as always, the Five Most Important Words in the English Language are:

HIT THE FREAKING TIP JAR!

You should do Uber. Much less expensive than a cab, and the app runs on even low-end smartphones. That having been said, I’m hitting the tip jar.

Is there a big story. Yes, but we already knew that Trump is a butt hurt little boy and arrogant @$$.

Alas, he may have handed the election to Hillary with is actions against Cruz.

    I’m a Cruz conservative.

In 1972, the Democrats left my father out of their party. He never voted Democrat again.

In 2016, Donald Trump is left me out of the Republican party, and the only reason I might still vote for him is that Hillary is so awful, it might be worth accepting the insult from Trump. But yesterday, when he doubled down on insulting Cruz and his family, he showed such inconceivably bad judgment, such petulance. He should’ve basking in the glow of his speech, and moving forward, but he couldn’t help himself. And that shows defective character.

The fact he’s an adulterer and then fornicator pretty much shows he has defective character.

Yeah, but many Presidents have had affairs, and perhaps that doesn’t effect their ability to lead and govern. But deliberately continuing a fight for no reason after winning the nomination shows defective character in terms of leadership. It shows pettiness and overwhelming ego.

Trump is simply small little boy that can’t get over playground slights. If he can’t get past this, how will he handle a snub from say, the Chinese or Russians?

If he can’t let it go, it may cost him the election. In the final analysis, I doubt it will make any difference which one is elected. Both are sad and sorry individuals, and the country has already been trashed beyond rescue by any politician.

Four or eight more years of Bolshevik rule will be incomparably more horrible than anything I can imagine. I would literally prefer a SMOD event to the Hell on earth Hillary’s election would produce.

I doubt the final outcome will be affected by electing Trump. The fall is already set, and Trump will be impotent to stop anything. That’s assuming he’s sincere about what he has been saying, which I very much doubt.

That’s a good question. Maybe he’ll say something that’ll threaten to start a war. Or maybe he’ll just be a good little toady of Putin’s.

If Trump wins and shifts our course away from the iceberg of cultural and debt collapse, great! Any other result will show certain people that things can no longer be fixed at the ballot box; not so great, but for our future history, a necessary step.

I don’t see Trump saving anything. Buckley pegged him back in 2000, and I’ve seen nothing from Trump that anything has changed on his part. Trump isn’t going to be much of a POTUS. whether he’s going to be any better than Hillary would be is a serious question. The man has been a lifelong leftist and I see him reverting as soon as he’s in.
