“We got him” — that’s what they told Boston Mayor Thomas Menino after Dzhokar Tsarnaev was apprehended — alive — Friday night, ending a weeklong manhunt that those of us who followed it are unlikely ever to forget. It was like live-blogging a Die Hard sequel. The minute you thought to yourself, “Well, it can’t get any crazier than this,” it did, but the whole thing was crazy from the very beginning.

Chechen Islamic terrorists bomb the Boston Marathon.

Re-read that sentence. It makes no sense at all.

If you had proposed that as the plot of a novel before Monday, any publisher would have laughed you out of his office: “Chechens? What the hell is a Chechen? And why the hell would these Chechens want to bomb the Boston Marathon?” But . . . they did, didn’t they?

Yeah, two Chechen brothers decided that they’d build bombs out of pressure cookers, packing them with ball bearings as shrapnel to blow people’s legs off. Then these crafty jihadists, who had pulled off the biggest terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11, implemented their clever escape plan . . . Oh, wait.

They had no clever escape plan. Given a three-day head start, by which time they could have been halfway across the globe, instead the Brothers Tsarnaev fled no further than the suburbs of Boston. As late as Wednesday, “Suspect Number Two” was still hanging out at college, working out in the gym. It wasn’t until after their photos were shown to the world at a press conference that the Brothers Tsarnaev decided to make their move, which involved shooting a campus cop at MIT, then carjacking a Mercedes SUV for a car chase during which they threw bombs out the window at pursuing cops.

Brilliant plan, “Suspect Number One.”

The cops shut down the entire city of Boston — no buses or trains Friday — and told people to stay indoors. Then the cops held a press conference to say, “Go back to your normal lives.” An hour later, “shots fired” and we had a televised standoff that finally ended with “Suspect Number Two” being arrested on a boat in the backyard of a house at 67 Franklin Street, Watertown, which briefly became the world’s most famous address. (Dzhokhar is now being treated at Beth Israel Medical Center, because God has a sense of irony.)

And in that moment of triumph and relief, with one suspect dead and the other in custody, the first instinct of liberals was to wonder if the FBI had read Dzhokhar Tsarnaev his rights.

Meanwhile, the liberals who spent four days hoping and praying and predicting that this heinous atrocity was perpetrated by right-wingers are now busy telling us that we shouldn’t focus on the Islamic beliefs of these Chechen terrorists — disciples of radical imam Feiz Mohammad — or the fact that these guys were immigrants.

Our Moral and Intellectual Superiors are now lecturing us that it’s wrong to speculate about motives.

Maybe I’ll write some more later about these ridiculous douchebags, but for right now, I’m just incredibly tired and grateful that Suspect Number One is a cold heap of decaying flesh and Suspect Number Two is going to face justice for what he did.

We know what he did. And we don’t need any liberal sermons about the need to “respect a basic presumption of innocence.”

What part of “fuck you, David Sirota” is so hard to understand?

    Sirota got what he wanted…a white terrorist. He just doesn’t like the Chechen muslim part. Seems to prove he hates white American men. Only a person with severe mental problems could have that much self hate. He’s probably sticking needles in his ass as I type this.

    According to a medical friend, the suspect can’t be read his Miranda rights when he is under sedation. I’m sure as soon as he comes out of sedation, he will be read his rights.

    I’m not convinced the Brothers Tsarnaev were tying to escape. I think MIT Police Officer Sean Collier disrupted them from planting bombs at MIT.

    Also, as a longtime resident, I can tell you that driving to Watertown is not how you escape from Cambridge, Massachusetts. We can’t rule out that they had a third target in Watertown. That could be why they released the carjacked SUV owner.

    Look at the Republicans cheering at the loss of our civil liberties. This guy is a citizen caught committing a crime on American soil. If he doesn’t have any real rights, then none of us do.

    And the show of force in Boston may have been aphrodisiacal for some of us, but the stone cold truth is that the police didn’t catch him until a homeowner called the police to tell them where he was.

    Hurrah for security theater!

    I am troubled by the fact that the state and federal government shut down an entire metropolitan area of 4 to 5 million people for an entire day.

    What is the legal authority to justify this type of action? Can you imagine the reaction of the left had George Bush done the same thing?

    When have we shut down regions of a state when conducting a manhunt for a single fugitive?

    I don’t know if they read this “alleged” terrorist thug his rights when the apprehended him. Of course, that would only matter if they actually questioned the guy before they read him his rights.

    But what about the rights of the 4 to 5 million Boston area residents that were infringed during this manhunt when they were ordered off the streets and to remain virtual prisoners in their own homes?

    Were the actions of these authorities reasonable? Were these actions lawful? Were these actions necessary?

    I’m pretty sure that lock down was unconstitutional.

    And probably unnecessary. Certainly the search was ineffective, if it took a diligent property owner to notice a discrepancy in his backyard…..AFTER the lock down was lifted.

    I don’t think Chechen muslims are as dedicated jew haters as much as the rest of the cult. They concentrate more on the Russians. I’m sure they’d be willing to join in but generally, they’re preoccupied.

    Gotta love the Chechen President or whatever telling us that it’s OUR fault that they got brought up wrong.

    Sure, pal. Hmm let’s check that ol’ Chechen political and religious demographic again. Along with the keywords “terrorists” “Beslan Massacre” and other assorted highlights of the political and religious divide (still extant) in Chechenaya. Dope.

    safety of the public and to make it easier to secure a perimeter. One out of two ain’t bad. Still, I can understand how they might issue an order like that for a smaller area. Personally, I would’ve done whatever I had to do if it came to that but only if it was absolutely necessary. Sort of like when they tell you to stay off the streets when there’s a big storm or snow making conditions dangerous.

    Some sources are saying the suspect was raised in Kyrgzstan, Russia, and America. He is ethnic Chechen.

    Outside America, where real racism is practiced, not the synthetic BS forced on America by the Prognazis, ethnic Chechens face a rough existence. America is the one true refuge.
    So for the Chechen President, and even the embassy of the Czech Republic to say Tsarnaev is not one of them is perfectly natural and, if the suspect did not live in Chechnya, correct.

    There are armed and dangerous felons and fugitives on loose in every metro area every day.

    My question was, what is the legal authority to justify such an act by these government agencies? I want to know what gives them the authority to do what they did.

    And again, the irony is that they found the guy after the dubious directive was issued and the guy was found BECAUSE a citizen came out of his house and noticed something amiss on his property. Had he been out earlier in the day, he may well have noticed the blood trail earlier!

    Why, yes, I am feeling just a touch irate about this. I am not, given my knowledge of Soviet atrocities, particularly prejudiced against Chechens. Between Beslan and this? I’m not particularly inclined towards tolerance, either, any more.

    I read some idiot elsewhere asserting that Chechens view Czechs as “interfering”. Considering that I can find no mention even that the Czech Legion (wiki it, at need) even so much as visited Chechnya back in 1918, I can’t figure where that came from.

    So maybe the Czechs understand what idiots our low information voters are.

    I suspect that if and when we know the details, these guys will be less aligned with a strictly “Chechen” terror group, which are aimed exclusively at Russia. But there has been cooperation between the Chechens and al Qaeda in the past, and it is quite possible a Qaeda training camp is operating in or near Chechnya.

    So while one may have been radicalized at such a camp – somewhere – it seems likely both were following Qaeda jihadist websites and leaders.

    This is going to become an ever more frequent problem, with the enforced moral neutrality of our public institutions, the inability of people with islamic cultural backgrounds to adapt to Western culture and traditions, and the natural nostalgia for a glorious caliphate back home that in fact never existed.
