‘Inappropriate’

Sexuality is cooked into the human condition at the chromosomal level. As a social conservative, one of my keys to a stress-minimizing, joy-maximizing life is keeping things really, really simple. On sexual topics, the less of anything above, say, PG level, the better. Let us not deny the existence of sexuality, but let us ensure we’re dealing with it in an ‘appropriate’ way.

Dominique Strauss Kahn, should his ignoble name come up in discussion with The World’s Youngest Blogger, will not be held up as an example of manhood to which to aspire. Nor will anybody trying to make a buck off DSK’s tawdry escapades (emphasis original):

Now, I personally do not want to police other people’s desires when it comes to rape/assault fantasies. Whatever floats your boat that doesn’t hurt anyone else or yourself, I always say. But it is beyond inappropriate for a rape/assault fantasy porn to act out a real incident that has an alleged real victim.

It amuses me to see an author like Jessica Wakeman at The Frisky get into high dudgeon over such a finely split hair. Does Jessica find appropriate of other rape/assault fantasy porn (that she doesn’t care to police) as long as it’s purely fictional? How much allusion to the DSK allegation would make it OK for Jessica?

No, it’s simply the least-worst way to go to take a libertarian, indifferent stance to what people are up to. If the law defines the edge of ethical, and no laws are broken, then fine. Morally speaking, I can’t differentiate between DSK, Jessica, or these pornographic actors. It’s all a muddle.

You want to know what’s appropriate? From Ancient Commenter Solomon, who I guess came by the wisdom the hard way:

Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Proverbs 5:18

I realize modern people have been trained to hate simplicity, but appropriate sexual conduct is one aspect of life upon which the Information Age has had little effect.

Actually there’s a DSK prono video in the works…

If you don’t do something about the raunchy ads (slightly OT, but not much), I’m going to have to stop visiting. That would really suck.

Wow, say what you will smitty, but nothing is hotter than some fat old French socialist getting his groove on!

    Okay.  Maybe not.

    That’s a Stacy McCain conversation.

Solomon was one of the dumbest motherfuckers that ever drew breath, let alone who wore a crown. It irks me to no end that he gets credit for wise shit that he probably paid somebody else to compile, probably because he knew he seriously needed it. One of the biggest morons in ancient history. Like telling two women to cut a baby in half and share it is supposed to be wise. Good fucking God, what an idiot.

He’s gone over that; I’m not sure he’s entirely in charge of what ads he gets sent.

RSM, don’t go wasting intellectual energy on such a morbid subject.

The upshot is simple, and binary.  If Herman did it, he’s a jerk and his candidacy is done.

If he didn’t do it, he’s been smeared and those behind it are jerks who need to be destroyed.

And by the way, —————— I think it’s clear that he did it, and that he nonetheless tried to foist himself on the GOP with that just waiting to blow up on him, {AND US!} during the general.

In which case his judgement is so bad as to be off the charts.

When understood in conjunction with his now repeatedly demonstrated  poor handle on foreign policy questions, {on really ANY issue beyond his 999  plan}, it’s pretty clear this guy has wasted our time.

AND effectively stolen time from the other candidates on that stage who  we now know were far more deserving of face time than him.

He needs to be told in no uncertain terms to get lost, scram, ————- STAT!

“Like telling two women to cut a baby in half and share it is supposed to be wise.”

Could you continue to miss the point if impaled on it?

The test was which one loved the baby enough to surrender it. If both of them had been good with the idea of cutting it in half, I suspect his next step would have been to take the baby into royal wardship and then remove both of them from the breeding pool.

Dan, you’re full of shit. All we have is the unsupported word of someone that anything happened. Produce any kind of actual evidence before you spout off.

BTW, I don’t believe alleged rape victims without bruises, either. Otherwise, it’s he says / she says.

And break his royal word as a king, in front of witnesses. If he was really wise he could have determined which one had the bond with the child and which one was just deluded, or whatever. Solomon was a dumb fuck. He didn’t cut the baby in half but he sure screwed his kingdom royally. So many wives and concubines he couldn’t possibly have kept their names straight, taxed his people out the ass to maintain his and their lifestyles, and in the meantime allowed the most hideous pagan cults in existence, ones that engaged in human sacrifice and ritual sex practices. His reign resulted in his country’s finances and morale being so strained his son pushed it over the edge into civil war, resulting in two countries. But he was wise?

First off on rape victims without bruising, ———— knives wielded by dirtballs under some dame’s chin are apt to get her cooperative fast, and all without her consent, which means the absence of signs of physical resistance does not mean consent was present.

But that’s not this case, so that’s not really relevant for the case at instant, which is Herm, and his shady memory of the details of women accusing him of being a creepy harasser.

What you’re being asked to believe is that Herm was fingered by some women working with him and he couldn’t recall the details when asked.  And I’m not just referring to the settlement arrangements that ensued from those accusations, but the supposedly harassing actions themselves.

So the conclusion of the drama he supposedly didn’t know about or recall, and what triggered the accusations made against him are things likewise he couldn’t recall.

Isn’t it just amazing how convenient the details of his memory are?

Now who does that remind you of?  That reminds me of the various personages accused of various wrongdoing in the Clinton administration.

Yet Conservatives are supposed to go to bat for him because he’s being fingered as a “strong, black man” on the receiving end of the Bork, Clarence Thomas treatment.

Thomas had a SINGLE accuser and a host of women out there defending him.    As the situation is fluid with Cain, I’ve little doubt now that additional women are going to be found, because people who do such things are RECIDIVISTS, which means repeat offenders.  The media is right now poring over his past with a fine-tooth comb, {the action that deliberately failed to do with President Hussein Obama by the by}.

    He’s done.

Soloman started out on a roll but you are right when you say that by the end of his reign he was despised and discredited: ” So many wives and concubines he couldn’t possibly have kept their names straight, taxed his people out the ass to maintain his and their lifestyles, and in the meantime allowed the most hideous pagan cults in existence, ones that engaged in human sacrifice and ritual sex practices. His reign resulted in his country’s finances and morale being so strained his son pushed it over the edge into civil war, resulting in two countries. But he was wise?” Excellent analysis, you obviously know your  Old Testament history.

I’ve always been fascinated by ancient history in general, including ancient Biblical history. Most people view Solomon in the context of a few random phrases here and there and aren’t really that familiar with his entire story. If he were alive today, he’d be way too liberal to be a successful American politician anywhere other than a very few enclaves, if that. Mainly, I think he gets undue credit for the works of others. He was probably a major arts patron of his day, and he does deserve credit for the financing of most of it, so its easy to see how the art and culture that prevailed during his reign due to his patronage would be seen as his own. He probably wasn’t concerned enough to discourage such views.
