This Vintage Pin-Up Girl Is Not Endorsed by the Manchester (N.H.) Union Leader

Until the allegations made headlines, cable TV news today was all-Newt, all-the-time, with an occasional mention of Mitt Romney, so that the media deciders — among them New Hampshire’s largest newspaper — are not-so-subtly trying to tell you that these are your only two “real” choices in the Republican presidential campaign. Some headlines:

Newt Gingrich in 1989, the pro-Rockefeller GOPer
Politico

Mitt Romney: A weathervane in a hurricane
The Hill

Gingrich Says He’s
‘Conservative Alternative’ to Romney

New York Times

1992 it called him a ‘prostitute’

Telegraph (U.K)

Politico

A lot of this is just reporters following the big story. But some of it is the media doing the “decider” thing, where they are telling Republican primary voters to ignore Herman Cain, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Michelle Bachmann and Rick Santorum. (By contrast, they want you to believe that Jon Huntsman is actually a legitimate and viable GOP candidate.)

Not a herd animal by nature, I resent this kind of manipulation. You should resent it, too. So, here’s a press release from Bachmann:

Bachmann Meets with Iowa Voters, Participates in UNI Presidential Education Forum on Nov. 30

And here’s a press release from the Santorum campaign:

SANTORUM “FAITH, FAMILY AND FREEDOM

Verona, PA – Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum will return to northwest Iowa on Sunday, December 4th on the latest leg of his “Faith, Family and Freedom Tour.” Additional events will be added, with press updates to follow. Open press events are noted, all times are local.

7:30pm CT: Senator Santorum will hold a “Faith, Family and Freedom” Rally in Sioux Center, IA.

498 4th Avenue NE

There you have press releases — “media advisories,” as they are called — about two campaigns that are going forward in Iowa, despite being written off as hopeless and irrelevant by the national media.

And I stuck a vintage pinup at the top of the post, just to call your attention to the fact that what really matters is not what the media decides, but what the voters decide.

Also: It would be nice if somebody over at Cain HQ knew how to issue helpful “media advisories” like this. Because I’m not getting any.

I’m starting to think the ‘conservative new media’ deserve Newt.  Just don’t expect me to show up for him.

Maybe Cain’s campaign thinks this is a Ron Paul site because it’s more libertarian than republican. You’d think someone there would do some outreach to the bloggers.

Never mind.  After reading the other Cain thread, and refreshing the older stories, I’m getting a bad feeling about their”efforts” entirely.

The Cain campaign, now powered by even more WTF!

Well, if only guys like Stacy and Ladd had given some hint, some slight indication they might be favorably disposed . . .

I agree it’s absurd to consider the race down to two with Gingrich winning the “not Romney” slot by virtue of merely being the latest “flavor of the month” (as Palin might say).

I do favor winnowing the debate field, but anyone cut could earn their way back.  It’s a weird cycle, with an incumbent who only a moron could seemingly support – but who might raise as much as $1 billion from rent-seekers for his reelection effort.  Anything can happen:  at this point in 2007 it was Giuliani and Thompson fighting for the lead, McCain a weak third with Romney fourth and Huckawho? nowhere in the polls.

Certainly there are still several candidates who could shock the race in Iowa:  Cain, Perry, Bachmann, Santorum, or Paul.  Gingrich has no ground game in the state which most depends upon organization, and Romney has hesitated to go all in with his existing structure for fear of elevating the contest to a must-win for him (gun-shy at least, but he does have the bitter memory of 2008).

While you are correct, I was referring to the less published candidate activities.

Yeah, you should use your influence with those guys and tell them to send an email to the Cain campaign, or something.

Can we get a phone number here?

    Anyone?

Wait, didn’t I read somewhere that some woman just mentioned having a phone number for Herman Cain?

    Dude, I gots no influence.

Better call Tabitha Hale.  She’s been online for several months and is veeeery influential.

Speaking of unmentioned candidates, did Perry not issue anything or have you declared him an unperson?

Oh, and question?  As someone pointed out to Kurt Schlichter on Twitter last night, how does one keep up a years-long affair while on chemo and radiation for Stage 4 colon cancer?  That’s SUCH a turn-on.  Chemo must be better than Cialis. So if your tumor lasts more than four hours…

No doubt about it, this woman should pick our candidate:

“Ms. White is an unemployed single mother. Before the interview, Fox learned that she had filed a sexual harassment claim against an employer in 2001. That case was settled. The station also found a bankruptcy filing nearly 23 years ago in Kentucky, and several eviction notices in the Atlanta area over the past six years.
The station also reported that Ms. White had a former business partner who once sought a “stalking temporary protective order” against her for “repeated e-mails/texts threatening lawsuit and defamation of character.” The case was dismissed, but it was followed by a libel lawsuit against Ms. White. A judge entered an order against Ms. White because she failed to respond to the lawsuit, Fox reported.”
