When Brevity Breeds Ambiguity

It’s 0220. Mrs. Other Smitty just returned from a trip, and we’re trying to get settled. Here is a message on Twitter from somebody whose initials are DM:

Now, I’ve met the lady in question, and so I’m relatively less creeped out by DM, than, say, DWS.

Let me be clear:

  • RSM and I are not swapping love notes.
  • The non-swappable, non-existent love notes will not be delivered to Debbie M.
  • Initials and acronyms can and will be used to comic effect.

That is all.

No matter what, brevity is the soul of wit.

    And always will be.

Perhaps she’s trying to tell our proprietor to angle for the ambassadorship to Dominica rather than Vanuatu?  (Dominica websites end in .dm)

Don’t pick on me. I’m a privileged Other McCain reader. I received a private, emailed explanation of this post from the author himself. So there. :-p

No, ambiguity about whether ‘DM’ is ‘Direct Message’, or the person who Tweeted.

Dorothy Malone appreciated the discretion, Smitty.
