I’m likely not the first to notice this effect, varying Mike Godwin:

Heh. Bush didn’t start it! I did it all through my administrations. Just like Jack and Lyndon before me.
Any president who gave a political speech engaged in torture. I could be wrong but I think Obama leads the pack in that category.
He has done more with less consequences than I did. The primary difference is that the Fourth Estate no longer exists under his administration. A free press (the Fourth Estate) caused my downfall and resignation, the suborned media supports and enables his.
His administration is more like that of Pinochet or even George III of England thaan any administration that existed before in this once free Republic.
I’m compelled to say that Dubya is responsible for the misnamed Patriot Act. Like it or not, that fiat gave the tools of tyranny the color of law. This country will regret that passage of that “law.”
I agree, but Bill Clinton is an awful close second – remember the near-Castro-length speeches?
Indeed. And part of the blame will rest on conservatives like myself who failed to see that parts of it were wrong.
That’s whatcha get when you elect someone that likes the sound of their own voice.
Sorry, Dick, it didn’t actually exist under yours either; it’s just that now the mask is off, and there’s other channels.
Well, Bush. Hitler. BushHitler (McChokeyPretzel). QED.
