Democrat-run California has passed a law that effectively prohibits cops from turning over illegal aliens to federal immigration officials, Michelle Malkin reports. Gov. Jerry Brown: “While Washington waffles on immigration, California’s forging ahead. I’m not waiting.”

    When the city of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, passed ordinances attempting to keep out illegal immigrants, the whole thing was thrown out, because a federal court said that immigration was the province of the federal government alone. See Lozano v Hazleton. If taken to court, the Pyrite State would lose . . . unless it went to the Ninth Circus.

    If it were merely California destroying itself, it would be one thing. However, flaunting immigration law causes the rest of us bear the costs of illegal aliens who trot across the border at San Diego.

    California has the highest poverty rate in the nation, several percentage points worse than historically poor, rural Mississippi, and 1/3 of the country’s welfare recipients. So why not make it easier for those not entitled to be there and collecting benefits to come and cash in?

    The really funny part is that recent oil and shale deposit discoveries mean that California could carry on their liberal fantasy for another twenty years – but they won’t, because they won’t let themselves exploit the resource.

    To toss some salt on the open wound, their insane Green laws mandate an ever-increasing share of the power sold in California must be “renewable” energy like solar or wind power. So despite all the new oil and gas, their energy costs will be going through the roof.

    Democrats are determined to bankrupt the place before it tumbles into the sea.

    Time to chop off the lower half of Cali and give it to Mexico. They already occupy it anyway. Just make sure that Governor Moonbean goes with it.
