Christie Re-Elected in NJ Landslide; McAuliffe Squeaks Past in Virginia

The Big Man from Jersey won big — everybody knew that was coming — but the surprise of the night was how strong Republican Ken Cuccinelli finished in the Virginia governor’s race. Experts had predicted Democrat Terry McAuliffe to win by 7 points, but as the results came in, Cuccinelli was ahead most of the night. It was not until past 9:30 p.m., with about 90% of precincts reporting, the the Northern Virginia/Richmond vote helped put the Democrat in the lead. As of 10 p.m., it was McAuliffe 47% to Cuccinelli’s 46% — a margin of about 25,000 votes.

A narrow loss for the Republican in Virginia is bad news, of course, but it is far from the massive blowout defeat that the media was prepared to blame on the Tea Party. Cuccinelli clearly gained a lot of ground in the final week of the campaign, as the ObamaCare failure became evident. Because opposition to ObamaCare has been a touchstone of the Tea Party movement all along, the result in Virginia, while disappointing, actually bodes well for the GOP going forward.

I am bitter over those self appointed GOP “elites”who rooted for McAuilife to hurt the Tea Party.

The three week sideshow of the government shutdown sucked the oxygen out of the media cycle with 24/7 coverage. So in addition to giving Democrats another shot at breaking the sequester cuts in three months, it killed Cuccinelli’s chances.

    Thanks, Sooper Geniuses!

Blame Libertarian Robert Sarvis for being a spoil sport. He and Cuccinelli combined for 53% of the votes. If not for him, Ciccinelli could have won.

Wrong again, Sparky. Virginia law permits a recount only when the difference is 1% or less of the total votes for the office. McAuliffe looks to end up winning by double that.

Unfortunately, Mark Obenshain won by only 7000 or so votes and may be subject to a recall.

Nope, you can blame Robert Sarvis of the Libertarian Party for Cuccinelli’s defeat. He and Cucinelli have a combined 53% of the vote. If Sarvis has not been a spoil sport, Cucinelli could have won.

I blame the voters who went for Sarvis. But the real fault is the betrayal of the GOP (the libertarian voters who went for Sarvis are a symptom of the greater disease, they reject the GOP for good reason). Of course, maybe a few more years in the wilderness and those voters will become a new majority.

A narrow loss Terry McAuliffe is nothing to brag about, even a narrow win against McAuliffe should be anything to get to proud about. If the Republicans should have been able to beat him by a wide margin, after all, it is Terry friggin’ McAuliffe.

You can also blame the current Governor who damaged the GOP brand as well. If you think the shut down is the only factor then you are, rather than simply seeming to be, an idiot.

Money talks, and with McAuliffe spending it like quarter-credit chips at an all-night Zoop Palace, it was talking VERY loudly.

    Ken was sold out…

The government shutdown did not help Cuccinelli. But that was out of Ken’s hands. But admit it, an almost complete lack of support from the GOP was shameful. Thanks Establishment GOP, proving again you are like old biddies at the DAR backfighting over what cakes you are bringing to the next meeting…

Christie is celebrating his victory in NJ by coming to SC to campaign for RINO squish, Lindsey Graham. Graham also has the endorsement of Mike Huckabee, another RINO squish.
