The point of which, is… What, exactly?
The federal government already flagrantly violates most of The Bill of Rights. Does adding a “we really mean it” amendment seem like it’s actually going to fix anything?

In a word: o hell yeah!

    Your question is answered here

    Critical excerpt:

“One more thought exercise for you: Imagine for a moment that we have successfully gotten the Liberty Amendments ratified. One of those Amendments that we have not yet covered here is the repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment. It restores selection of Members of the federal Senate by State Legislatures. It also gives the State legislatures the power to remove one or both of their Members of the Senate. What do you suppose would happen, if the legislature of the State of Nevada voted to remove Harry Reid? Do you really think Harry Reid would return to Washington, expecting to resume his seat? What of the replacement the legislature names? Do you really think he or she will show up in DC, see Harry Reid sitting in his seat, and decide to just go home without taking up his or her newly assigned duties?”

    Ehhxcellent!

I’ve been so freaking swamped with coding and other critical work stuff that I’ve had to set aside my efforts here for a bit. I’ll be ramping back up over the next month, though.

Thanks for dropping this in here, Smitty!

I think they mean Seventeenth Amendment (popular election of Senators), not the Eighteenth Amendment (banning alcohol), which has already been repealed by the Twenty-First.

Thanks. Did it make you hit the spacebar?

Every time I played that game and later saw the (more) in some document, I automatically hit the spacebar.

Oh crap, I did it again. I need someone to slap my hand with a ruler every time I bring up the Seventeenth amendment. I always type ‘eighteenth’ for some reason.

    Fear of prime numbers, perhaps?

Heh. It didn’t, but I thought about it. I still have a saved game on nethack.alt.org that I haven’t made any significant progress on in a couple of years now; I found a wand of wishing on dungeon level 2 and powered my way through everything up to and including the Valley of the Dead, then realized I needed to really organize my stuff for the assault on Gehennom, and still haven’t gotten that done yet.

    Fear of the magazine? 🙂

For some reason I verbally confuse August and October occasionally. Still haven’t figured that one out.

Alas, the only ruler I have handy is made of steel.

    Right, 17th.

It’s done almost as much damage as the 16th and 19th.

Man, I had to think about that one for a bit. That’s one mag I rarely saw growing up. My sisters were more of a “Tiger Beat” type of reader. Loved them some Bobby Sherman and the Bee Gees.

Holy crap! I’m in the exact same situation. Funny how much effort it is to restart.
