In The Photo Finish, Huxley Beats Orwell By A Joint

People have been looking a Fort Meade and trembling in Orwellian fear, but it looks like civilization may be more likely to end up drowned in a bong than sent to Room 101:

Welfare recipients can’t use their EBT cards at liquor stores but they can at marijuana dispensaries in states such as Colorado that have legalized pot, Sen. Jeff Sessions revealed Tuesday.
The Alabama Republican announced that he was drafting legislation to close the welfare-for-weed loophole after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services confirmed to him that marijuana shops were not off limits to EBT cards, which replaced food stamps, or other federal benefits.

Thought experiment: you can be on the dole, or you can vote, but not both. The quote usually focuses on the government bribing people with their own money. However, there seems to be a reciprocal problem of the deadbeat people offering votes in exchange for handouts. There has to be a way to diminish that threat.

I’d like to see a liberty that was open to more than just Christians. And not because the Christians took pity on us poor unenlightened ones. I’d like to see us share liberty because we’re human. I’d like to see us make law not because “the Bible told me so,” but because we’ve decided as humans that some laws are needed.

Richard Baxter used to write “Unity in things Necessary, Liberty in things Unnecessary, and Charity in all.”

The simple answer is that moral responsibility is always a personal choice. You can’t compel virtue or it ceases to be virtue.

    LOL,

-I quoted an original Huxley reference which was not a part of the fiction in Brave New World and not some “conspiracy theory”

-your 2nd reply is non-responsive to the questions I asked

-You’re engaging in personal attack after I treated your response courteously

-My own positions on Cannabis are irrelevant to the statements I made.

    – I’ve read Huxley’s Moksha and the unabridged version of The Letters of Aldous Huxley, his own use of psychoactive drugs are irrelevant to his views on social engineering

    – As Dead Messenger mentioned previously What’s the point your trying to make?

Giving out EBT cards to deliver “benefits” was a huge mistake. Similar to allowing employers to collect income taxes and forward them to the IRS so the workers don’t realize how much they are paying.

barack has been spared all the classic, “Waiting in line for help,” photos that plagued Hoover’s Administration. People just get their benefits automatically now. I’m betting hookers have some way to take EBT cards.
