The weekend got eaten by Game of Thrones, visiting with friends, and suchlike distractions, but here we are, finally, with another week of links celebrating attractive women. This week we note the passing of Grace Lee Whitney, who played the rather toothsome Yeoman Janice Rand on the original Star Trek series*, with a pic of her in that role.

I actually met Grace at a Trek con in Houston 20 years ago. Very kind, sweet and honest.

A few days before the con, the program A Current Affair ran a hit piece on Shatner in which she was featured. During Q&A I asked her if she had known the intent of the program when she was interviewed.

She first stated she was glad I asked that question. Then she said no, if she knew she would not have consented to an interview, and then she related a story on how kind Shatner was to her.

Because I did some BTS work at the con, I was invited to share dinner with the convention committee and Grace. There was a buffet and here I was, actually standing next to her, talking about her appearance in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

She will be missed.

I was actually impressed by most of the obituaries I saw, which (as she’d asked) stressed how much work she’d done with people trying to recover from addiction as opposed to her Star Trek career.
